Background Strong associations have been demonstrated between the American Heart Association’s cardiovascular health (CVH) metrics and various cardiovascular outcomes, but the association with sudden cardiac death (SCD) is uncertain. We examined the associations between these CVH metrics and the risks of SCD and all-cause mortality among men in Finland. Background: Sleep duration has been shown to be associated with all-cause mortality, however its relationship with cause-specific fatal events remains uncertain. We examined the relationship between sleep duration and risk of fatal coronary heart disease (CHD), sudden cardiac death, cancer related death and all-cause mortality. Methods Sleep duration was self-reported at baseline examinations performed between March 20, 1984 and December 5, 1989 in 2,361 men aged 42-61 years old from the Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease study. Regional variations in occupancy frequency distributions patterns between odonate assemblages in Fennoscandia

Odonate (damselfly and dragonfly) species richness and species occupancy frequency distributions (SOFD) were analysed in relation to geographical location in standing waters (lakes and ponds) in Fennoscandia, from southern Sweden to central Finland. In total, 46 dragonfly and damselfly species were recorded from 292 waterbodies. Species richness decreased to the north and increased with waterbody area in central Finland, but not in southern Finland or in Sweden. Species occupancy ranged from 1 up to 209 lakes and ponds. This article contrasts “The Finkelstein 5” and “Zimmer Land”, from Nana Kwame Adjei Brenyah’s short story collection Friday Black (2018) with the “Untitled” series from Mohale Mashigo’s Intruders (2018), using Mark Dery’s definition of Afrofuturism as a reading grid and a starting point. While both collections draw on the codes of science fiction and dystopia to portray racialized characters in futuristic settings to examine their relation to technology and their place in fictional ‘future’ societies, they take on different approaches. Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to explore early temporal patterns of change in a treatment delivered by novice therapists. We examined if early sudden gains (ESGs) in a six-session acceptance and values-based intervention would produce superior treatment outcomes when compared to slower improvements. Method The temporal patterns of change of 56 clients diagnosed with depression were analyzed. ESGs were defined as reaching the status of recovered or improved in the Reliable Change Index (RCI) (Jacobson & Truax (1991)) classification after two sessions. Though previous research has extensively reported that sudden gains are associated with superior treatment results, research on the long-term effects and stability of sudden gains is not as consistent. The current study explored the long-term stability of early sudden gains (ESGs) observed in a brief acceptance and values-based intervention for depression provided by novice therapists. The participants were 56 volunteers diagnosed with major depressive disorder.
