Sunflow: Sunlight Drives Fast and Green Photochemical Flow Reactions in Simple Microcapillary Reactors - Application to Photoredox and H-Atom-Transfe…
2016
“Sunflow“ – The combination of a microcapillary reactor in continuous flow mode with sunlight as the most sustainable energy source imaginable was applied to a range of photoredox and H-atom-transfer reactions making them both fast and green.
Extreme overirradiance events in Norway: 1.6 suns measured close to 60°N
2015
Abstract We report the most extreme overirradiance event of 1.6 kW/m 2 measured so far in Grimstad, southern Norway (latitude 58°20′), at altitude of only about 60 m a.s.l. Images of the sky conditions taken with a wide-dynamic-range camera suggest that this is not the ultimate value for our location, but that extremes as high as 1.7 kW/m 2 may be possible. The phenomenon was caused by strong forward scattering of sunlight within 3° around the solar disk in thin, broken altocumulus clouds. The normalized spectrum of sunlight during such extreme events is very similar to the normalized clear-sky spectrum measured at Air Mass 1.4 and irradiance of 1.0 kW/m 2 . We suggest that the values excee…
Dynamic daylight simulations: Impact of weather file’s choice
2015
Abstract This paper is the second step of a research project aimed at investigating the impact of the use of different weather data files on daylight simulations’ results. Simulations were carried out for a simple standalone office using three weather files (IWEC, Meteonorm and Satel-Light) for two European locations (Copenhagen and Rome); moreover the office’s exposure was changed according to the four main orientations (North, East, South and West). Results were analyzed both in terms of Annual and Monthly Light Exposures, dynamic daylight performance metrics (DA, DAcon, UDI) and sunlight’s incidence. It was demonstrated that differences between the results obtained with the different wea…
Sunlight induced functionalisation of heterocyclic bases in the presence of TiO2

Exposure to increased ambient ultraviolet B radiation has negative effects on growth, condition and immune function of juvenile Atlantic salmon (Salm…
2008
Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) parr were exposed in two outdoor experiments, ranging in duration from 52 to 137 days, to spectral treatments: (1) natural sunlight (=present ambient UVB level), (2) solar radiation supplemented with enhanced UVB radiation from lamps simulating 20% or 8% stratospheric ozone loss or (3) UVB-depleted sunlight achieved by screening with Mylar-D film. The growth, condition and immune function of the salmon were quantified after treatments. Exposure to enhanced UVB radiation retarded growth, and decreased hematocrit value and plasma protein concentration. Further, enhanced UVB radiation affected plasma immunoglobulin concentration. The results demonstrate that juven…
Zilās gaismas draudu kumulatīvā analīze
2022
Anomalous electrical parameters improvement in Ruthenium DSSC
2018
. In this work, we present a series of measurements carried out on Ruthenium-based Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) after the application of different external electrical field values. Such measurements have been performed both in the dark and by illuminating the sample with sunlight emitted by a solar simulator (AM1.5G spectrum with a power irradiance of 1000 W/m2). Our results demonstrate that the initial electrical bias field modifies in both cases the behavior of the cell in terms of an anomalous improvement of the main electrical parameters.
Sunlight exposure exerts immunomodulatory effects to reduce multiple sclerosis severity
2021
AbstractBackgroundMultiple sclerosis (MS) disease risk is associated with reduced sun exposure. This study assessed the relationship between measures of sun-exposure (vitamin D (vitD), latitude) and MS disease severity, the mechanisms of action, and effect-modification by medication and sun-sensitivity associated MC1R variants.MethodsTwo multi-center cohort studies (nNationMS=946, nBIONAT=991). Outcomes were the multiple sclerosis severity score (MSSS) and the number of Gd-enhancing lesion (GELs). RNAseq of four immune cell populations before and after UV-phototherapy of five MS patients.ResultsHigh serum vitD was associated with reduced MSSS (PNationMS=0.021; PBIONAT=0.007) and reduced ris…

Stability of Cannabinoids in Hair Samples Exposed to Sunlight
2000
It has been well recognized that hashish and marihuana lose potency during storage because of a decrease in the content of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the major psychoactive constituent of cannabis (1). The effect of oxygen on stored plant and resin materials or solutions of pure cannabinoids seems much less significant than that of higher temperatures (≥37 °C) or light (2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7). A few data are available on the stability of THC and major metabolites in blood (8)(9)(10)(11). However, the stability of cannabinoids in the hair shaft has not been addressed, although scalp hair represents one of the most exposed parts of the body. Therefore, a study was performed to elucidate …
