2015

AbstractSense of belonging refers to the degree to which individuals feel included, accepted, and supported by others in a variety of social settings. This study, based on the narratives of two females (ages 26 and 29) with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), examines sense of belonging and various life transition issues that may appear throughout childhood, adolescence, and adulthood in the absence of appropriate social supports. Hearing the voices of females with autism is important, because the number of girls diagnosed with ASD has grown. Women on the spectrum can potentially provide significant insights into the services required to feel a sense of belonging to society. Qualitative analysi…

Participants’ home as an interview context when studying sensitive family issues

2013

This article considers the meaning of the participants’ home as an interview context when studying sensitive family issues. The influence of social support on the wellbeing of immigrants residing in Italy: Sources and functions as predictive factors for life satisfaction l…

2023

Moving from one country to another involves not only separation from the country of origin, but also the tiring process of integration into a new physical, institutional, and sociocultural context, which may expose migrants to acculturation stress. The loss of former support networks, or at the very least their transformation, presents immigrants with the need to rebuild their social support systems in the host country, involving an active search for support. Therefore, the aim of study is to analyze the structure of informal social support and its capacity to predict immigrants’ sense of community, resilience, and satisfaction with life. The results confirm that social support predicts sat…

Deep learning for agricultural land use classification from Sentinel-2

2020

A decision support system to assure high-performance maintenance service

2020

PurposeThis study aims to propose a decision support system (DSS) for maintenance management of a service system, namely, a street cleaning service vehicle. Referring to the information flow management, the blockchain technology is integrated in the proposed DSS to assure data transparency and security.Design/methodology/approachThe DSS is designed to efficiently handle the data acquired by the network of sensors installed on selected system components and to support the maintenance management. The DSS supports the decision makers to select a subset of indicators (KPIs) by means of the DEcision-MAaking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory method and to monitor the efficiency of performed prevent…

A Comparison of Finnish and United States Franchisee Satisfaction

2004

This paper investigates, using a multi-dimensional model, differences between franchisee satisfaction in Finland and the United States. Comparison of Finnish and American franchisee satisfaction levels is made across eight dimensions of franchisee satisfaction. Data was collected using a postal survey of Quick Service Restaurant (Hamburger) franchisees in Finland and the United States. Results show franchisees in Finland and the United States are overall equally satisfied. Data analysis revealed that for four of the eight dimensions, franchisees in both countries have statistically equal levels of satisfaction. However, for the other four dimensions, a statistical difference exists between …

Cultivating the Installed Base: The Introduction of e-Prescription in Greece

2017

In this chapter we explore the surprisingly swift deployment of a national e-prescription service in Greece. We position e-prescribing within the overall Greek health system and we describe how the new electronic service evolved to inscribe specific prescribing policies, to provide clinical decision support and to facilitate the processes and roles of policy and financing stakeholders. We identify how a series of pragmatic decisions allowed building upon a “good-enough” installed base by exploiting its latent potential without perpetuating all of its weaknesses, and by being responsive to exogenous shifts. These tactical decisions, were supported by a favourable and enabling combination of …

The role of organizational facilitators in promoting job-related mental health and group service effectiveness: a two-wave analysis

2016

This study aimed to add to knowledge by providing a more systematic integration of work characteristics, workers’ health and performance. The two-wave multi-source study was conducted to test the relationship over time between the healthy states of groups of service-oriented workers and their service effectiveness when their organizations provide facilitators such as training, technical support and autonomy. The study takes healthy states to be a composite of affective-motivational and competent collective states (collective vigour and service competence) and service effectiveness. Service effectiveness was a combination of service quality as assessed by customers and their loyalty intentio…
