Structural Variation and Magneto-Structural Correlation in Two New Dinuclear Bis(µ2-Phenoxo)-Bridged CuII Schiff-Base Complexes: Catalytic Potential …

2010

Two new dinuclear bis(μ2-phenoxo)-bridged copper(ii) complexes [Cu(NCS)L1]2 (1) and [Cu(NCS)L2]2 (2) have been synthesized using two tridentate NNO-donor Schiff-base ligands, L1H (Me2N(CH2)3N=CHC6H3(OMe)(OH)) and L2H (Me2N(CH2)3N=C(CH3)C6H4(OH)), respectively. They have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV-visible, and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. X-Ray single-crystal structures reveal a central Cu2O2 core in each complex with an isothiocyanate ligand coordinated terminally to each metal centre. The coordination environments around the CuII ions in 1 and 2 are a distorted trigonal bipyramid and…

Observation of novel oxygen⋯oxygen interaction in supramolecular assembly of cobalt(III) Schiff base complexes: a combined experimental and computati…

2015

Two mononuclear cobalt(III) Schiff base complexes with azide [Co(L)(N3)(L0 )] (1) and [Co(L)(N3)(L00)] (2) {where HL ¼ 1-((2-(diethylamino)ethylimino)methyl)naphthalene-2-ol, HL0 ¼ 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde and HL00 ¼ acetylacetone} have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Both complexes show mononuclear structures with azide as terminal coligand. Structural features have been examined in detail that reveal the formation of interesting supramolecular networks generated through non-covalent forces including hydrogen bonding, C–H/H–C and C–H/p interactions. These interactions have been studied ener…

Fullerene-Polymers: Synthesis, Properties and Applications

2009

Written by an outstanding team of experts in the interdisciplinary areas of research, this book is based on a new classification of the different types of fullerene polymers according to their chemical structures. It covers all aspects, from different classes, to their synthesis and applications in material science. Of great interest to polymer and synthetic chemists, but also for material scientists and industrial chemists.

Organic Salts as Tectons for Self-assembly Processes in Solution

2022

The literature, covering the last decade, about the self-assembly processes of organic salts in conventional solvents was analyzed. In particular, data reported about imidazolium and ammonium salts have been considered. The analysis shows that these processes are highly determined by structural features of the salts. Indeed, besides the nature of the cationic head, features of the alkyl chain borne on the cation structure and its possible functionalization, as well as the nature of the anion play a pivotal role. These factors determine not only the nature of the solvent in which the process occurs but also the nature of the self-assembly mechanism. Consequently, the structure tunability of …

Walking through Soft Materials to Join Supramolecular Gels: An Overview about the Properties and Applications

The class of soft materials includes a large variety of species arising from self-assembly processes and held by non-covalent interactions. This confers peculiar features, allowing applications in very different fields.1 Among soft materials, supramolecular gel phases have aroused a surge of interest.2 These materials combine properties of liquid phase with the ones of a semi-solid network and the large number of gelator/solvent combinations can offer answer to issues of different nature.3 This lecture will show on overview about the obtainment and characterization of gel phases, in the attempt to understand the relationship working between gelator and solvent nature and gel phase propertie…

Polysaccharide-based supramolecular bicomponent eutectogels as sustainable antioxidant materials

2023

In this work, we obtained supramolecular gels in deep eutectic solvents (DES) from polysaccharides like chitosan and chitosan : cellulose composites. We thoroughly characterized our gels by determining the minimum gelation concentration, as well as their porosity and swelling. We also investigated their mechanical properties by rheology, and morphology by scanning electron measurements. These properties were mainly influenced by the number of hydrogen bond sites on the hydrogen bond donor, (HBD), while FTIR-ATR investigation suggested that, upon gelation, cholinium cations interpose between polysaccharide chains affecting interchain hydrogen bonding. Our gels also exhibited self-healing and…

Supramolecular polymerization of electronically complementary linear motifs: anti-cooperativity by attenuated growth†

2021

Anti-cooperative supramolecular polymerization by attenuated growth exhibited by self-assembling units of two electron-donor benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene (BDT) derivatives (compounds 1a and 1b) and the electron-acceptor 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (BODIPY) (compound 2) is reported. Despite the apparent cooperative mechanism of 1 and 2, AFM imaging and SAXS measurements reveal the formation of small aggregates that suggest the operation of an anti-cooperative mechanism strongly conditioned by an attenuated growth. In this mechanism, the formation of the nuclei is favoured over the subsequent addition of monomeric units to the aggregate, which finally results in short aggrega…
