Atomic-scale magnetic domain walls in quasi-one-dimensional Fe nanostripes.

2001

Fe nanostripes on W(110) are investigated by Kerr magnetometry and spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy (SP-STM). An Arrhenius law is observed for the temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility indicating a one-dimensional magnetic behavior. The activation energy for creating antiparallel spin blocks indicates extremely narrow domain walls with a width on a length scale of the lattice constant. This is confirmed by imaging the domain wall by SP-STM. This information allows the quantification of the exchange stiffness and the anisotropy constant.

Leptin: A pivotal mediator of intestinal inflammation in mice

2002

Abstract Background & Aims: In addition to acting as a regulator of food intake and energy expenditure, leptin can also modulate immune and inflammatory responses. The role of leptin in intestinal inflammation is the focus of the present study. Methods: Acute and chronic colitis were induced in leptin-deficient ob/ob or wild-type (WT) mice using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) or trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS). The severity of colitis was evaluated, and possible mechanisms were studied. Results: Leptin directly stimulates intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) and lamina propria mononuclear cells (LPMCs). In the DSS acute model, ob/ob mice exhibited a 72% reduction of colitis severity and sp…

SIMPRE: A software package to calculate crystal field parameters, energy levels, and magnetic properties on mononuclear lanthanoid complexes based on…

2013

This work presents a fortran77 code based on an effective electrostatic model of point charges around a rare earth ion. The program calculates the full set of crystal field parameters, energy levels spectrum, and wave functions, as well as the magnetic properties such as the magnetization, the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility, and the Schottky contribution to the specific heat. It is designed for real systems that need not bear ideal symmetry and it is able to determine the easy axis of magnetization. Its systematic application to different coordination environments allows magneto-structural studies. The package has already been successfully applied to several mononucle…

Effect of the metal dilution on the thermal and light-induced spin transition in [FexMn1−x(bpp)2](NCSe)2: When T(LIESST) reaches T1/2

2008

International audience; The thermal and light-induced spin transition in [FexMn1−x(bpp)2](NCSe)2 (bpp = 2,6-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine) has been investigated by magnetic susceptibility, photomagnetism and diffuse reflectivity measurements. These complexes display a thermal spin transition and exhibit the light-induced excited spin state trapping (LIESST) effect at low temperature. For each mixed-crystal system, the thermal spin transition temperature, T1/2, and the relaxation temperature of the photo-induced high-spin state, T(LIESST), have been systematically determined. It appears that T1/2 decreases with the metal dilution while T(LIESST) remains unchanged, suggesting that the two interco…

Synthesis and Magnetic Properties of Novel Azamacrocyclic LnIII, CuII, FeIII, and SrII Complexes and Conformational Analysis of the Ligands

2008

Hexaalkoxy-substituted azamacrocyclic metal complexes 1 · MXn [MXn = FeCl3, CuCl2, SrCl2, Ln(NO3)3; Ln = La, Pr, Eu, Ho, Er] with various chain lengths were prepared by a convergent approach using 1,2-bisalkoxy-4,5-diamines 3 and 4-alkoxy-pyridine-2,6-dicarbaldehydes 4 as key building blocks for template-assisted cyclocondensation. Metal complexes 1 · MXn were considered as potential metallomesogens. However, differential scanning calorimetry and optical polarizing microscopy of 1 · MXn did not reveal any mesomorphism. The magnetic susceptibility shows deviation from Curie-like behavior. Due to ligand field effects the effective magnetic moments are a function of the temperature. In order t…

Spin crossover in hexakis(1-(2-chloroethyl)-tetrazole)iron(II) complexes; synthesis and magnetic properties

2002

Abstract The spin-crossover complexes [Fe(teec)6](X)2 (with teec=1-(2-chloroethyl)-tetrazole and X=BF4, ClO4, PF6) possess two iron(II) sites each having a different spin-crossover behaviour. The magnetic behaviour of the complexes obtained by slow crystallisation differs strongly from those obtained by precipitation. This difference results in either a spin crossover of 50% (X=ClO4, crystalline), two gradual steps (X=BF4, PF6), or two steps, of which one is gradual and the other having a thermal hysteresis (X=ClO4 precipitated). Both 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility measurements have been recorded as a function of T. The crystal structure of [Fe(teec)6](BF4)2 has bee…

Structural and magnetic diversity in metal-dicyanamido polymer moieties: Paramagnetic and antiferromagnetic 1D chain compound and weakly ferromagneti…

2009

Abstract The reaction of M(NO 3 ) 2 · x H 2 O (M = Cu, Ni and Co; x  = 3 for Cu and x  = 6 for Co/Ni), imidazole (Im) and sodium dicyanamide (dca) afforded the complexes [M(Im) 2 (dca) 2 ] (where M = Cu for 1 , M = Ni for 2 , and M = Co for 3 ). All of them have been characterized structurally by single crystal X-ray diffraction measurements. X-ray analysis reveals that the dicyanamido ligand features the μ 1,3 bridging mode that led to the formation of two-dimensional structure of complex 1 while complexes 2 and 3 attribute an infinite one-dimensional chain like structure to generate the fascinating molecular assemblies. The {N(CN) 2 } − ligands present in the complexes 2 and 3 are coordin…

A three-dimensional copper(ii) 12-metallacrown-4 complex with malonomonohydroxamic acid (H3mmh) as a ligand

2011

Slow diffusion of an ethanolic solution of copper(ii) into an aqueous solution of partially deprotonated malonodihydroxamic acid (H4mdh) affords the pentanuclear complex of formula {[K(H2O) 2]2[Cu5(mmh)4]}n (1) (H3mmh = malonomonohydroxamic acid) which is formed by 12-MC-4 metallacrown units with the fifth copper(ii) ion being placed at the center of the square metallacrown unit. The dianionic pentacopper(ii) planar entity interacts with diaquapotassium(i) counterions through the carboxylate-oxygen atoms resulting in a neutral three-dimensional structure. Magnetic susceptibility measurements in the temperature range 1.9-300 K for 1 show the occurrence of relatively strong antiferromagnetic …

Limiting nuclearity in formation of polynuclear metal complexes through [2 + 3] cycloaddition: synthesis and magnetic properties of tri- and pentanuc…

2014

A tridentate ligand p-chloro-2-{(2-(dimethylamino)ethylimino)methyl}phenol (HL) was used to generate an octahedral nickel complex [Ni(L)Cl(H2O)2] 1 which was further converted into a square-planar nickel complex [Ni(L)(N3)] 2. The [2 + 3] cycloaddition reaction between metal coordinated azide 2 and different organonitriles under microwave irradiation afforded tri- and pentanuclear nickel(II) complexes 4a-4c. Reaction with benzonitrile and 3-cyano pyridine furnished the trinuclear species [Ni3L2(5-phenyltetrazolato)4(DMF)2] 4a and [Ni3L2{5-(3-pyridyl)-tetrazolato}4(DMF)2]·2H2O 4b, respectively. The nickel centers were found to be linearly disposed to each other and the complex is formed by a…
