Conceptualisation et évaluation d'une typologie de lotissement vertical pour un aménagement urbain durable

2020

The current urban development process is the result of a paradoxical situation. On the one end, families prefer individual housing, which finds the favourable conditions to its spreading in the more or less distant from towns outskirts, while wishing to benefit from services (proximity to amenities, public transport offers, etc…) which are rather the corelate of dense urban centralization. On the other hand, in order to fight against environmental, social and economic costs of urban sprawl, and also aim towards a more sustainable city, the urban renovation and compact city projects lead to some density levels that only collective housing enables to reach. So, the equation - control of the u…

Sustainable Urban Development: Theoretical Concept or a Real Method of Urban Design?

2018

The principles of sustainable urban growth have been developed by researchers from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds. They all have tried to provide compelling visions of an economically, socially, environmentally and spatially balanced urban environment. In other words, they have striven for a concept of a city that is harmonious in terms of housing, spatial accessibility, preservation of cultural heritage and political stability. It appears that for some actors of urban life, the sustainable development model has become a blueprint for action while for others it represents a kind of utopia, a contemporary image of the ideal city and state.

A sustainable city environment through child safety and mobility:A challenge based on ITS?

2012

Our cities should be designed to accommodate everybody, including children. We will not move toward a more sustainable society unless we accept that children are people with transportation needs, and ‘bussing’ them around, or providing parental limousine services at all times, will not lead to sustainability. Rather, we will need to make our cities walkable for children, at least those above a certain age. Safety has two main aspects, traffic safety and personal safety (risk of assault). Besides being safe, children will also need an urban environment with reasonable mobility, where they themselves can reach destinations with reasonable effort; else they will still need to be driven. This p…

The Scandinavian Third Way as a Proposal for Sustainable Smart City Development—A Case Study of Aarhus City

2022

The practical implementation of the goals of smart sustainable cities has different forms. This paper explores an example of the Danish smart city Aarhus, through which the so-called ‘Scandinavian third way’ of smart city development is being proposed. The foundations of the ‘third way’ are directly derived from the Scandinavian tradition of cooperation; it is supposed to be an alternative to the more commercial American model and the more centrally-controlled Asian tradition. The paper aims to identify how the Scandinavian collaborative model has influenced the process of developing the smart city Aarhus, to analyse the proposed ‘Scandinavian third way’ …

Is sustainable aligning with smartness in transport domain? – marketing perspective of smart city rankings

2022

Rising awareness of sustainable development challenges, along with the quest for optimization of the everyday functioning of the city, motivate many urban authorities to search for promising concepts and solutions. One of these is the smart city concept, which has gained governors of cities’ attention for little more than ten years. An object of research and development, it is still a distinctive feature for the cities that adopt this concept. City marketers use such distinction towards a large palette of beneficiaries of the city. At the same time, it deploys some traits suggesting synergies between the implementation of smart city solutions and sustainable development goals. The main objec…
