The paper investigates the relationship of Italian and German consumers with sustainable tourism through a quantitative online questionnaire. The study’s first aim is to understand the representation of sustainable tourism. Education as a Strategy to Tackle Over Tourism for Overtourism and Inclusive Sustainability in the Twenty-First Century

Overtourism is a systemic indicator of failure in the process of planning and destination management and temporary patchworks will not solve it. Inclusive Sustainable Tourism is proposed as a lasting intervention to address the evil of Overtourism. Cultural analysts call the attention on over-tourism as a post-modern social malady which exhibits the decline of the social bondage. This vantage point needs to meet with the more pragmatic ones advanced by tourism management practitioners and find an agreeable middle ground. It is believed that both sides find agreement in the need for providing appropriate educational interventions to overcome the problem of Overtourism.
An analysis of the stability of rural tourism as a desired condition for sustainable tourism

Abstract Tourism is a key sector in the sustainable development of rural environments. Its ability to create stable employment and an acceptable level of profits is conditioned by the stability of tourist activity throughout the year. This paper compares the level of seasonality of a group of rural destinations to that of coastal and urban destinations. By doing so, we intend to determine whether seasonality-related problems exist in the rural environment or not. Alternative Tourism Strategies to Enhance Local Sustainable Tourism Development

This chapter establishes the relationship between the ALTER-ECO project and the problem of overtourism. Background reviews the phenomenon of excess tourists based on recent research. The measures implemented in Gandia (Spain) as part of the ALTER-ECO project are described. Monitoring influx of tourists, installing Free Wi-Fi at Gandia Beach, and creating a mobile app are three measures that have contributed to easing the effects of overtourism. The debate proposes monitoring, public Wi-Fi, and gamification as three strategies for dispersing tourist load. Conclusions include measures and strategies that coincide with UNWTO 2018 recommendations.
