iCanCope with PainTM Norway : Cultural translation and feasibility testing of the Norwegian iCanCope with PainTM app aimed at reducing pain and impro…

2020

The paper III is not published yet. Persistent pain has a high prevalence among adolescents. Pain has been shown to reduce all aspects of the adolescent’s health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Available pain-coping applications (apps) are rarely scientifically evaluated nor have health personnel in their development. Thus, there is a need to provide coping strategies in evidence- and theory-based app interventions aimed at reducing pain and increasing HRQOL among adolescents with persistent pain. The iCanCope with PainTM app is originally from Canada and based on theory, identified healthcare needs and current best practices for pain self-management. There was a need for ensuring the app …

Velferdsstatlig universalisme – en saga blott?

2022

Intensive care nurses' attitudes and behavioural intentions toward obese intensive care patients

2020

Paper I, II, and III are not available as a part of the dissertation due to the copyright. Background: Admission of obese patients with complex health care needs to intensive care units is increasing. Caring for obese critically ill patients can be challenging for qualified intensive care nurses because of the patients’ weight, critical situation and physical challenges. Previous studies have demonstrated that some healthcare professionals hold negative attitudes toward obese patients. Obese intensive care patients may experience more stress than normal weight patients; therefore, intensive care nurses’ attitudes and the way the nurses address patient care may be important. Despite a range …

Developing well-being as one grows older : A mixed method study

2020

Living the good life has been a topic of interest for centuries and is often captured by the phenomenon of well-being. However, there are different opinions on what wellbeing consists of and what the good life entails. The different understandings of wellbeing are typically categorized as concerned with either hedonia (feelings and experiences) or eudaimonia (positive functioning), but there are also integrated approaches that combine the two perspectives. Most would agree that the experience of both hedonia and eudaimonia can be considered the greatest form of well-being. In addition to the interest in understanding what well-being consist of, there are substantial investigations into the …

Interprofessional simulation-based learning used to prepare perioperative nursing students for acute situations

2023

Background: Perioperative nursing focuses on care for patients with life-threatening crisis, illness or injury undergoing planned or acute surgery, treatment and/or examination. Performing care requires advanced knowledge and skills to ensure safe outcomes for surgical patients. Perioperative nurses work in interprofessional surgical teams and must develop team skills, such as communication and interprofessional collaboration, as teamwork is an essential component of patient safety. Therefore, perioperative nurses need a distinct form of higher education that builds a close relationship between higher education, science and the profession’s occupational field. Interprofessional simulation-b…

Professional competence development through interprofessional simulation-based learning assists perioperative nurses in postgraduation acute clinical…

2022

To explore recently graduated perioperative nurses' experiences of interprofessional simulation-based learning during postgraduate education and investigate whether and how this learning approach contributed to the development of their professional competence in meeting acute clinical situations.Perioperative nursing requires specialised education that offers professional development to ensure high-quality nursing care and patient safety in acute situations. Interprofessional simulation-based learning exposes students to acute situations in a safe environment without the risk of harming the patient, and it prepares postgraduate nursing students for clinical practice. Despite extensive resea…

Nurse-led consultations reinforced with eHealth technology: a qualitative study of the experiences of patients with gynecological cancer

2022

Abstract Background During the last decade, the health care profession has moved toward personalized care and has focused on the diversity of survivorship needs after initial cancer treatment. Health care providers encourage empowering patients to participate actively in their own health management and survivorship. Consequently, we developed and piloted a new follow-up model for patients at a Norwegian hospital, referred to as the Lifestyle and Empowerment Techniques in Survivorship of Gynecologic Oncology (LETSGO) model. Using LETSGO, a dedicated nurse replaces the physician in every second follow-up consultation, providing patients who have undergone cancer treatment with self-management…
