The monograph investigates the breakdown of the Uruk world-system towards the end of the 4th millennium BCE, and the roots of secondary state formation in the Middle Euphrates region through the analysis of continuity and change in the Early Bronze ceramic material from the site of Tell el-‘Abd (Tabqa Dam, Syria). Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zaznajomienie czytelnika z teologią sakramentu pokuty i pojednania w Asyryjskim Kościele Wschodu oraz z wykształconą w łonie tej wspólnoty liturgią jego celebracji zwaną „obrzędem pojednania” (taksā d-h.usāyā). The aim of this article is to analyze the rise of the so-called Islamic State in the perspective of a Middle Eastern and commentator for “The Independent”, Patrick Cockburn, who also publishes in the “London Review of Books. The text begins with a sketch of the geopolitical determinants for the spread of the Islamic holy war, i.e. jihad. Then, it focuses on the disturbing phenomenon of sectarianism – directed mainly at the Shia branch of Islam – the attitudes of extremist Sunni preachers.
