A New Look at the Stochastic Linearization Technique for Hyperbolic Tangent Oscillator

Abstract Stochastic linearization technique is reconsidered for oscillator with restoring force in form of hyperbolic tangent. We show that a subtle error was made in the previously known procedure for derivation of the linearized system parameters. Two new error-free procedures, namely, those based on minimization of mean square difference between (a) restoring force or (b) potential energy of the original non-linear system and their linear counterparts, are suggested. The results of numerical analysis are shown.

The family of an individual was studied who lacks the seventh component of complement in his serum (C7 homozygous deficiency). Both parents are C7 heterozygousdeficient. In this investigation, the following parameters were determined: complement components in functional and immunochemical tests; HLA-A,B antigens, HLA-D (MLC) determinants; the Bf system; glyoxalase I and B cell antigens. In vitro synthesis of factor B of the alternative pathway of complement activation by mouse peritoneal macrophages

Factor B of the alternative pathway of complement activation was shown to be synthesized and secreted by unstimulated mouse peritoneal macrophages. The activity of B in the culture supernatants from macrophage monolayers was detected by consumption of C3 in reaction mixtures containing supernatant and guinea pig factors C3, D and insoluble C3b. Using a monospecific antiserum, factor B in concentrated culture supernatants was shown by immunodiffusion and immunoelectrophoresis to be identical to factor B in mouse plasma and to form a characteristic complex with cobra venom factor in the presence of D. Phagocytosis of SRBC by guinea-pig peritoneal macrophages is enhanced by opsonizing IgG antibody alone. IgM antibody requires the presence of bound C3. Treatment of C3b coated SRBC with purified C3b inactivator (yielding EAIgM C1423d) does not reduce attachment to, and phagocytosis by, peritoneal macrophages. This finding suggests the existence of a C3d receptor on peritoneal macrophages. Atherosclerosis is widely regarded as a chronic inflammatory disease that develops as a consequence of entrapment of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the arterial intima and its interaction with components of both innate and adaptive immunity. This article reviews the role of the complement system in the context of a different concept on atherogenesis. The transfer entropy (TE) has recently emerged as a nonlinear model-free tool, framed in information theory, to detect directed interactions in coupled processes. Unfortunately, when applied to neurobiological time series TE is biased by signal cross-talk due to volume conduction.
