N-qubit states as points on the Bloch sphere

2009

We show how the Majorana representation can be used to express the pure states of an N-qubit system as points on the Bloch sphere. We compare this geometrical representation of N-qubit states with an alternative one, proposed recently by the present authors.

Modeling recurrent distributions in streams using possible worlds

2015

Discovering changes in the data distribution of streams and discovering recurrent data distributions are challenging problems in data mining and machine learning. Both have received a lot of attention in the context of classification. With the ever increasing growth of data, however, there is a high demand of compact and universal representations of data streams that enable the user to analyze current as well as historic data without having access to the raw data. To make a first step towards this direction, we propose a condensed representation that captures the various — possibly recurrent — data distributions of the stream by extending the notion of possible worlds. The representation en…

kq-Representation for pseudo-bosons, and completeness of bi-coherent states

2017

We show how the Zak $kq$-representation can be adapted to deal with pseudo-bosons, and under which conditions. Then we use this representation to prove completeness of a discrete set of bi-coherent states constructed by means of pseudo-bosonic operators. The case of Riesz bi-coherent states is analyzed in detail.

Representation Theorems for Indefinite Quadratic Forms Revisited

2010

The first and second representation theorems for sign-indefinite, not necessarily semi-bounded quadratic forms are revisited. New straightforward proofs of these theorems are given. A number of necessary and sufficient conditions ensuring the second representation theorem to hold is proved. A new simple and explicit example of a self-adjoint operator for which the second representation theorem does not hold is also provided.

A Kato's second type representation theorem for solvable sesquilinear forms

2017

Kato's second representation theorem is generalized to solvable sesquilinear forms. These forms need not be non-negative nor symmetric. The representation considered holds for a subclass of solvable forms (called hyper-solvable), precisely for those whose domain is exactly the domain of the square root of the modulus of the associated operator. This condition always holds for closed semibounded forms, and it is also considered by several authors for symmetric sign-indefinite forms. As a consequence, a one-to-one correspondence between hyper-solvable forms and operators, which generalizes those already known, is established.

Sesquilinear forms associated to sequences on Hilbert spaces

2019

The possibility of defining sesquilinear forms starting from one or two sequences of elements of a Hilbert space is investigated. One can associate operators to these forms and in particular look for conditions to apply representation theorems of sesquilinear forms, such as Kato's theorems. The associated operators correspond to classical frame operators or weakly-defined multipliers in the bounded context. In general some properties of them, such as the invertibility and the resolvent set, are related to properties of the sesquilinear forms. As an upshot of this approach new features of sequences (or pairs of sequences) which are semi-frames (or reproducing pairs) are obtained.

Interaction by ear

2019

Abstract Speech-based interaction is now part of our everyday experiences, in the home and on the move. More subtle is the presence of designed non-speech sounds in human-machine interactions, and far less evident is their importance to create aural affordances and to support human actions. However, new application areas for interactive sound, beyond the domains of speech and music, have been emerging. These range from tele-operation and way-finding, to peripheral process monitoring and augmented environments. Beyond signalling location, presence, and states, future sounding artifacts are expected to be plastic and reconfigurable, and take into account the inherently egocentric nature of so…

Clifford Rotors for Conceptual Representation in Chatbots

2013

In this abstract we introduce an unsupervised sub-symbolic natural language sentences encoding procedure aimed at catching and representing into a Chatbot Knowledge Base (KB) the concepts expressed by an user interacting with a robot. The chatbot KB is coded in a conceptual space induced from the application of the Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) paradigm on a corpus of documents. LSA has the effect of decomposing the original relationships between elements into linearly-independent vectors. Each basis vector can be considered therefore as a "conceptual coordinate", which can be tagged by the words which better characterize it. This tagging is obtained by performing a (TF-IDF)-like weighting…

Higher Brain Centers for Intelligent Motor Control in Insects

2011

The higher control of orientation, walking and gap climbing behavior in the fruit fly Drosophila is studied by neurogenetic means. An insect brain model is presented for the control of object approaches. The model comprises learning abilities of flies at two different time scales. A short-term orientation memory allows for the continued approach of objects that disappeared from sight. Flies can come back to the still invisible object even after a detour to a distracter object. A long-term memory allows for the storage of experience with particular types of objects in order to trigger avoidance behavior in the future instead of the default approach behavior. Moreover, we provide evidence tha…
