Hybrid Modelling and Control of a Class of Power Converters With Triangular-Carrier PWM Inputs
2021
In this paper, a new control design procedure for a class of power converters based on hybrid dynamical systems theory is presented. The continuous-time dynamics, as voltage and current signals, and discretetime dynamics, as the on-off state of the switches, are captured with a hybrid model. This model avoids the use of averaged and approximated models and includes the PWM as well as the sample-and-hold mechanism, commonly used in the industry. Then, another simplified hybrid system, whose trajectories match with the original one, is selected to design the controller and to analyse stability properties. Finally, an estimation of the chattering in steady state of the voltage and current sign…
Interplay Between Sustainable Development, Knowledge Society, and Smart Future Manufacturing Technologies in EU RTD Policy Documents, in the Work Pro…
2015
Modern societies create, share and use knowledge to grow wealth and well-being, in other words—to follow the principles of sustainable development on a broader scale. In such societies jobs no longer depend on basic manufacturing but on gaining and smartly applying the knowledge instead: developing and using the manufacturing technologies more efficiently. A knowledge-based society addresses the socio-economic challenges by international and inter-sectorial sharing of knowledge crucial for innovation. Sustainable development is a core EU objective ensuring our future being not compromised by our present socio-economic development. Policy-makers at the EU and Member State level have agreed t…
Coastal Sustainable Development Studies in Latvia: Integrated Local Social-Ecological Systems Governance
2021
Importance of sustainable coastal governance also in the Baltic sea region has been widely recognised and since such governance has to have integrative nature that requires horizontal cross-sectorial integration as well as involvement of all governance levels and subsequently organisation of vertical integration among the levels. Besides some succesfull local cases around Europe, mainly special outside projects based, there is to be recognized that the municipal integrated sustainable coastal governance has not been yet neither well and widely locally developed in practice nor sufficiently researched field in order to permit necessary design of adequate policy innovations. Practical develop…
General Systems Theory and Systems Biology
2015
We should not imagine that Systems Biology was born yesterday, indeed von Bertalanffy was a well-known supporter of the need to approach biological entities from the notion of a system. There is a tradition, dating back to early times, calling for the study of living things as a whole. Holism is no stranger to modern Systems Biology and, likewise, von Bertalanffy supported the quantitative study of the whole from the interaction of its parts.
SYSTEMS THEORY OF SYSTEMS THINKING: GENERAL AND PARTICULAR WITHIN MODERN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
2016
Following the concept of human as spiritual alive body, human thinking is spiritual activity of our brain – brainwork. Today we accept that thinking means processing of information what is important for management of human body life. Studying organization of human brainwork, people have discovered that all our thoughts and thinking activities are interconnected and form definite hierarchic structures. Humans reflect world as a set or network of diverse phenomena by building corresponding theories or models of observed phenomena. In other words, all phenomena in human world of thoughts are reflected as SYSTEMS, which are organizational units of Systems Thinking. Every system contains their i…
Distributed Consensus on Boolean Information
2009
Abstract In this paper we study the convergence towards consensus on information in a distributed system of agents communicating over a network. The particularity of this study is that the information on which the consensus is seeked is not represented by real numbers, rather by logical values or sets. Whereas the problems of allowing a network of agents to reach a consensus on logical functions of input events, and that of agreeing on set–valued information, have been separately addressed in previous work, in this paper we show that these problems can indeed be attacked in a unified way in the framework of Boolean distributed information systems. Based on a notion of contractivity for Bool…
On the problem of visualizing point distributions in high dimensional spaces
1995
Abstract Exploring dynamical systems with the aid of computer graphics requires that the relevant structures can be seen and be noticed. This poses special problems if the system is multidimensional, and it has to be decided which kind of projection serves the purpose. I propose using the mathematical frame of categories and functors to describe the process of visualization. This allows detecting and analyzing possible sources of misinterpretation in a formal way. The distribution of distances of embedded electroencephalographic data from a fixed reference point is used as an example for discussing some aspects of the visualization process. The multidimensional p-norms are an example of a p…
A Problem Structuring Method
1991
Given a formal definition of problem and a formal definition of system, the equivalence between both concepts is studied. Considering a problem as a 3-tuple , where D is the set of possible data, R is the set of possible results, and P the set of conditions of the problem, classes of problems are constructed as combinations of types of data, types of results and types of conditions. For example, data can be either literal or numerical, either with uncertainty or not; conditions can be determined by rules, tables, equations, it may have uncertainty, etc. As a case of application it is outlined how some of the most common problems (knowledge representation, search, reasoning and planning, etc…
Non-wandering sets with non-empty interiors
2003
We study diffeomorphisms of a closed connected manifold whose non-wandering set has a non-empty interior and conjecture that C1-generic diffeomorphisms whose non-wandering set has a non-empty interior are transitive. We prove this conjecture in three cases: hyperbolic diffeomorphisms, partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with two hyperbolic bundles, and tame diffeomorphisms (in the first case, the conjecture is folklore; in the second one, it follows by adapting the proof in Brin (1975 Topological transitivity of a certain class of dynamical systems, and flows of frames on manifolds of negative curvature Funct. Anal. Appl. 9 9–19)).We study this conjecture without global assumptions and pro…
Structural Vibration Control for a Class of Connected Multistructure Mechanical Systems
2012
Published version of an article from the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/942910 A mathematical model to compute the overall vibrational response of connected multistructure mechanical systems is presented. Using the proposed model, structural vibration control strategies for seismic protection of multibuilding systems can be efficiently designed. Particular attention is paid to the design of control configurations that combine passive interbuilding dampers with local feedback control systems implemented in the buildings. These hybrid active-passive control strategies possess the good properties of passive contro…
