IRIDE: Interdisciplinary research infrastructure based on dual electron linacs and lasers
2014
This paper describes the scientific aims and potentials as well as the preliminary technical design of RUDE, an innovative tool for multi-disciplinary investigations in a wide field of scientific, technological and industrial applications. IRIDE will be a high intensity "particles factory", based on a combination of high duty cycle radio-frequency superconducting electron linacs and of high energy lasers. Conceived to provide unique research possibilities for particle physics, for condensed matter physics, chemistry and material science, for structural biology and industrial applications, IRIDE will open completely new research possibilities and advance our knowledge in many branches of sci…
Overview of the HCPB Research Activities in EUROfusion
2018
In the framework of the EUROfusion’s Power Plant Physics and Technology, the working package breeding blanket (BB) aims at investigating four different BB concepts for an EU demonstration fusion reactor (DEMO). One of these concepts is the helium-cooled pebble bed (HCPB) BB, which is based on the use of pebble beds of lithiated ternary compounds and Be or beryllides as tritium breeder and multiplier materials, respectively, EUROFER97 as structural steel and He as coolant. This paper aims at giving an overview of the EU HCPB BB Research and Development (R&D) being developed at KIT, in collaboration with Wigner-RCP, BUTE-INT, and CIEMAT. The paper gives an outline of the HCPB BB design evolut…
Overview of the DEMO staged design approach in Europe
2019
This paper describes the status of the pre-conceptual design activities in Europe to advance the technical basis of the design of a DEMOnstration Fusion Power Plant (DEMO) to come in operation around the middle of this century with the main aims of demonstrating the production of few hundred MWs of net electricity, the feasibility of operation with a closed-tritium fuel cycle, and maintenance systems capable of achieving adequate plant availability. This is expected to benefit as much as possible from the ITER experience, in terms of design, licensing, and construction. Emphasis is on an integrated design approach, based on system engineering, which provides a clear path for urgent R&D …
IGISOL control system modernization
2016
Abstract Since 2010, the IGISOL research facility at the Accelerator laboratory of the University of Jyvaskyla has gone through major changes. Comparing the new IGISOL4 facility to the former IGISOL3 setup, the size of the facility has more than doubled, the length of the ion transport line has grown to about 50 m with several measurement setups and extension capabilities, and the accelerated ions can be fed to the facility from two different cyclotrons. The facility has evolved to a system comprising hundreds of manual, pneumatic and electronic devices. These changes have prompted the need to modernize also the facility control system taking care of monitoring and transporting the ion beam…
Normalizability, Synchronicity, and Relative Exactness for Vector Fields in C2
2004
In this paper, we study the necessary and su.cient condition under which an orbitally normalizable vector field of saddle or saddle-node type in C2 is analytically conjugate to its formal normal form (i.e., normalizable) by a transformation fixing the leaves of the foliation locally. First, we express this condition in terms of the relative exactness of a certain 1-form derived from comparing the time-form of the vector field with the time-form of the normal form. Then we show that this condition is equivalent to a synchronicity condition: the vanishing of the integral of this 1-form along certain asymptotic cycles de.ned by the vector field. This can be seen as a generalization of the clas…
The generic local structure of time-optimal synthesis with a target of codimension one in dimension greater than two
1997
In previous papers, we gave in dimension 2 and 3 a classification of generic synthesis of analytic systems\(\dot v(t) = X(v(t)) + u(t)Y(v(t))\) with a terminal submanifoldN of codimension one when the trajectories are not tangent toN. We complete here this classification in all generic cases in dimension 3, giving a topological classification and a model in each case. We prove also that in dimensionn≥3, out of a subvariety ofN of codimension there, we have described all the local synthesis.
Stability and Finiteness Properties of Medial Axis and Skeleton
2004
The medial axis is a geometric object associated with any bounded open set in \Bbb R^n which has various applications in computer science. We study it from a mathematical point of view. We give some results about its geometrical structure when the open set is subanalytic and we prove that it is stable under C2-perturbations when the open set is bounded by a hypersurface with positive local feature size.
SM identification of approximating models forH∞ robust control
1999
Set Membership (SM) W, identification of mixed parametric and nonparametric models is investigated, aimed to estimate a low order approximating model and an identification error, giving a measure of the unmodeled dynamics in a form well suited for H, control methodologies. In particular, the problem of estimating the parameters of the parametric part and the H, bound on the modeling error is solved using frequency domain data, supposing lbo bounded measurement errors and exponentially stable unmodeled dynamics. The effectiveness of the proposed procedure is tested on some numerical examples, showing the advantages of the proposed methods over the existing nonparametric H, identification app…
Comments on “Finite-Time $H_{\infty }$ Fuzzy Control of Nonlinear Jump Systems With Time Delays Via Dynamic Observer-Based State Feedback”
2014
This paper investigates a defect appearing in “Finite-time H∞ fuzzy control of nonlinear jump systems with time delays via dynamic observer-based state feedback,” which the observer-based finite-time H∞ controller via dynamic observer-based state feedback could not ensuring stochastic finite-time boundedness, and satisfying a prescribed level of H∞ disturbance attenuation for the resulting closed-loop error fuzzy Markov jump systems. The corrected results are presented, and the improved optimal algorithms and new simulation results are also provided in this paper.
A sliding mode approach to H∞ non-fragile observer-based control design for uncertain Markovian neutral-type stochastic systems
2015
This paper is focused on designing an H ∞ sliding-mode control for a class of neutral-type stochastic systems with Markovian switching parameters and nonlinear uncertainties. An H ∞ non-fragile observer subjected to the transition rates of the switching mode is firstly constructed. By some specified matrices, the connections among the designed sliding surfaces corresponding to every mode are established. Then, the state-estimation-based sliding mode control law is designed to guarantee the reachability of the sliding surface in finite time interval. Furthermore, a stochastic stability criterion is established for all admissible uncertainties, which can guarantee the error system and sliding…
