Political Cultures in the Fascist Italy: Transversalities and Contradictions

2019

As the first totalitarian experience, the construction of the fascist regime in Italy was a long, complex process, which remained unfinished by its very nature. Hence, this text attempts to explore some of the specific features of that process. In line with the overall approach of this volume, the principal aim is here to understand the role of the various political cultures in constructing the regime, particularly the fascist and nationalist ones. In that sense, Saz concludes that both were important and there were collaboration and transversalities, mutual understanding, contradictions, struggles and cracks between them. But this always happened from and towards a fascist hegemony, with t…

Fumarate regulation of gene expression in Escherichia coli by the DcuSR (dcuSR genes) two-component regulatory system.

1998

ABSTRACT In Escherichia coli the genes encoding the anaerobic fumarate respiratory system are transcriptionally regulated by C 4 -dicarboxylates. The regulation is effected by a two-component regulatory system, DcuSR, consisting of a sensory histidine kinase (DcuS) and a response regulator (DcuR). DcuS and DcuR are encoded by the dcuSR genes (previously yjdHG ) at 93.7 min on the calculated E. coli map. Inactivation of the dcuR and dcuS genes caused the loss of C 4 -dicarboxylate-stimulated synthesis of fumarate reductase ( frdABCD genes) and of the anaerobic fumarate-succinate antiporter DcuB ( dcuB gene). DcuS is predicted to contain a large periplasmic domain as the supposed site for C 4…

Improving point matching on multimodal images using distance and orientation automatic filtering

2016

International audience; Speed Up Robust Features SURF is one of the most popular and efficient methods used for image registration task. In order to achieve a correct registration, a good matching of feature point is required. However in the case of multimodal images, the high and non-linear intensity changes between different modalities led to many outliers (mismatching of detected points) and consequently a fail in the registration. Therefore, in this paper we introduce an efficient method devoted to the detection and removal of such outlier. It's based on an automatic filtering of outliers on both distance and orientation between features points. We tested our proposed method on a set of…

Tackling Market Failure or Building a Cartel? Creation of an Investment Regulation System in Finnish Forest Industries

2015

Government intervention in the economy is often justified by the need to correct market failures. This study analyzes one case, the investments of Finnish forest industries, in which, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, both policy makers and the trade association representing the sector reasoned that intervention was particularly necessary because otherwise, the only substantial natural resource in the small country would be overexploited. In the long run, however, the growth of forest resources turned out to be higher, and the demand for wood lower, than expected. Furthermore, the most influential industrialists managed to “capture” the regulatory system and make it a component of their ne…

Chemometric investigation on structural changes in pine kraft lignin during pulping

2000

Abstract Various structural changes which take place in dissolved lignin during the laboratory-scale kraft pulping of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) were studied. Lignin samples were subjected to the alkaline cupric oxide oxidation and the analytical data further processed by various multivariate chemometric techniques (principal component analysis, PCA; principal component regression, PCR; and projection to latent structures, PLS). Several models applicable to the indirect measurement of common pine kraft pulp properties (i.e., total cooking yield, kappa number and ISO brightness) were produced.

Human OX40 tunes the function of regulatory T cells in tumor and nontumor areas of hepatitis C virus-infected liver tissue.

2014

International audience; Regulatory T cells (Tregs) can be considered as a mixed population of distinct subsets, endowed with a diverse extent and quality of adaptation to microenvironmental signals. Here, we uncovered an opposite distribution of Treg expansion, phenotype, and plasticity in different microenvironments in the same organ (liver) derived from patients with chronic hepatitis C: On the one side, cirrhotic and tumor fragments were moderately and highly infiltrated by Tregs, respectively, expressing OX40 and a T-bet high IFN-c – " T-helper (Th)1-suppressing " phenotype; on the other side, noncirrhotic liver specimens contained low frequencies of Tregs that expressed low levels of O…
