Stoïlow’s theorem revisited

2020

Stoilow's theorem from 1928 states that a continuous, open, and light map between surfaces is a discrete map with a discrete branch set. This result implies that such maps between orientable surfaces are locally modeled by power maps z -> z(k) and admit a holomorphic factorization. The purpose of this expository article is to give a proof of this classical theorem having readers in mind that are interested in continuous, open and discrete maps. (C) 2019 Elsevier GmbH. There has not been a free and easy-to-use utility to handle both authoring and presentation of large graphs online, especially with mathematical content. On one hand, concept map editors are ideal for authoring graphs, but publishing capabilities may be limited. On the other hand, numerous browsing and layout tools exist for publishing content generated elsewhere. Sneaking into a Hotspot of Biodiversity: Coverage and Integrity of a Rhodolith Bed in the Strait of Sicily (Central Mediterranean Sea)

Habitat mapping, physical characteristics and benthic community of a rhodolith bed in the Pelagie Islands (Strait of Sicily, Mediterranean Sea) were studied through Multi–Beam Echo–Sounder (MBES), Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and grab samples. The geomorphological analysis revealed an articulated and wide rhodolith bed; video inspections highlighted a bed with high coverage, few sandy patches and with a prevalence of the boxwork morphotype. A total of 207 taxa with 876 specimens were identified, and Polychaeta was the dominant taxon. We tested whether non-invasive assessment of regional AF rate accurately represents intracardiac recordings.
