Effectiveness and quality of life 10 years after transobturator suburethral tape surgery for stress urinary incontinence

AIM We aimed to measure the effectiveness and quality of life (QoL) 10 years after transobturator suburethral tape surgery. METHODS We carried out a prospective observational study of 42 women assessed 10 years after surgical intervention with the transobturator technique. The main outcome measures were subjective and objective cure or improvement, complications, and changes in QoL. RESULTS The median abdominal leak point pressure had been 92 (82-113) mL H2 O prior to surgery. Summary There is growing interest in the relationship between H. pylori infection and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). However, this relationship is complex, as yet not fully elucidated, and probably based on a multiplicity of factors. The prevalence of H. pylori infection in patients with GORD is similar, more often lower than in matched controls. There is a negative correlation between H. pylori infection and the severity of GORD. There are many hypothetical mechanisms by which H. pylori infection may protect from the development of GORD. Objective: To study the anterior chamber contamination during non-complicated cataract surgery and its relationship with normal conjuctival organisms. Setting: Ophthalmology Department, La Fe Hospital, University of Valencia. Patients: Forty patients who had undergone cataract extraction using either ECCE, phacoemulsification or nucleus fracture methods. Results: Positive cultures of aqueous humour were obtained in 32.5% of cases. The most commonly isolated organism was Staphylococcus coagulase-negative. A study to determine the incidence of Staphylococccus aureus in 705 meals from several cafeterias in Valencia, Spain was undertaken. Out of the 705 studied meals, 81 samples (I I. I %) had coagulase positive staphylococci with a range of S. aureus from 100 to 53000 cfu/g. me four highest values (> l0,ooO S. aureus &/g) were obtained with Russian type salad, meatballs, chicken croquettes and salad. These products involved more handling stages. These data show that food handlers may contribute to food poisoning and that there are some handling practices that require more attention.
