The pathways in and out of crime differ according to gender, people’s life histories, social situations and networks. Before being sentenced, many women have been living in vulnerable and traumatic life situations and violent relationships. Substance abuse often plays a crucial role in committing crimes. Being released from prison and re-entering society is a process that requires women’s own motivation to desist along with help and support from society. The objective of this qualitative study is to reveal the discursive reality of Finnish women, who have chosen to follow their husbands to expatriate assignments. The research material includes interviews of seventeen (17) Finnish housewives who lived in Singapore in 1999. The primary theoretical framework of the study is a social-constructive view, in which the reality is seen to have been constructed through meanings that create and maintain cultural practices, social roles and institutions. A FRET-based random screening assay was used to generate hit compounds as sortase A inhibitors that allowed us to identify ethyl 3-oxo-2-(2-phenylhydrazinylidene)butanoate as an example of a new class of sortase A inhibitors. Other analogues were generated by changing the ethoxycarbonyl function for a carboxy, cyano or amide group, or introducing substituents in the phenyl ring of the ester and acid derivatives. The most active derivative found was 3-oxo-2-(2-(3,4dichlorophenyl)hydrazinylidene)butanoic acid (2b), showing an IC50 value of 50 µM. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin, miten lapsia ja vanhuksia kuvataan toimijuuden näkökulmasta neljän suurimman puolueen eduskuntavaaliohjelmissa. Tutkimusmenetelmänä hyödynnettiin kriittistä diskurssianalyysiä. Aineistosta oli tunnistettavissa kaksi toimijuuden diskurssia: passiivisen ja aktiivisen toimijuuden diskurssit, joissa molemmissa puhutaan lasten ja vanhusten toimijuudesta erityisesti palvelujärjestelmän kautta. Passiivisen toimijuuden diskurssissa erilaiset yhteiskunnalliset toimijat näyttäytyivät aktiivisina toimijoina lasten ja vanhusten sijaan.
