Low-Molecular-Weight Organic Acid Complexation Affects Antimony(III) Adsorption by Granular Ferric Hydroxide.
2019
Antimony(III) mobility in natural aquatic environments is generally enhanced by dissolved organic matter. Tartaric acid is often used to form complexes with and stabilize dissolved Sb(III) in adsorption studies. However, competition between such low-molecular-weight organic acid complexation and adsorption of Sb(III) has received little attention, which prompted us to measure Sb(III) adsorption by iron oxyhydroxide adsorbents commonly used in water treatment plants. Sb K-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectra gave Sb–O and Sb–Fe distances and coordinations compatible with a bidentate binuclear inner-sphere complex with trigonal Sb(O,OH)3 polyhedra sharing corners with Fe(O,OH)…
Enantiomer Separation of Tris(2,2′-bipyridine)ruthenium(II): Interaction of a D3-Symmetric Cation with a C2-Symmetric Anion
2015
A compound widely used in the separation of the enantiomers of Δ,Λ-[Ru(bipy)3]2+ (bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine) and originally described as “a curious lattice compound” with the formula Δ-[Ru(bipy)3]3[Sb2(R,R-tart)2]2I2·18H2O (tart = tetradeprotonated, carboxyl and hydroxyl, tartaric acid anion) has been crystallographically characterized as this species with a slightly higher degree of hydration (19.5H2O). The crystal lattice has a layered structure in which sheets containing Δ-[Ru(bipy)3]2+ cations and iodide anions alternate with those containing [Sb2(R,R-tart)2]2– anions and water. The role of the iodide ions, which lie in pseudohexagonal cavities formed by the array of three inequivalent but…
Complexes of tungsten (VI) with tartaric acid. Comparative study of the various schemes of formation
1981
The complex formation occurring between tungstic acid and tartaric acid has been investigated in order to explain the optical activity of tartaric acid in the presence of constant amounts of tungstic acid. A new scheme of formation that includes three different complexes is presented, which explains the experimental results found in the literature.
Resolution, Crystal Structure, and Histamine-like Activity of 4-[1-(2-Aminoethylthio)ethyl]-5-methylimidazole The resolution of racemic 4-[1-(2-aminoethylthio)ethyl]-5-methylimidazole (1) using optically active Di-O-(P-toluoyl)tartaric acid as well as the histamine-like activity of t…

Chlormethylated polystyrene (crosslinked with 0.5% divinylbenzene) is quaternized with (+)-methyl-n-propyl-phenyl-phosphine. The resultant anion exchanger has a capacity of 2.68 m.equiv./g. Mandelic acid, atrolactic, and rac. tartaric acid could not be resolved into the antipodes on this material.
The Effects of Different Formulation of Baking Powder on Short Biscuits Characteristics
2011
Chemical leaveners are used to give cookies, cakes, and other baked goods their characteristic textures. They produce gas when a carbon dioxide source and an acid are mixed together and come into contact with water. The most common sources of gas are sodium or potassium bicarbonate alone or in combination with ammonium bicarbonate. A great variety of acids are used in baking powder formulations. The acid are classified according to their capacity to react at lower or elevated temperature as rapid or slow acting. The aim of these study is to evaluate a very rapid acting acid (tartaric acid) and a slow to very slow acting acid (sodium acid pyrophosphate - SAPP) on the characteristics of short…
Combined effect of low-molecular-weight organic acids and creosote on phosphatase activities in sandy soil
2018
This paper assesses the impact of creosote and low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) on the activity of acid phosphomonoesterase, alkaline phosphomonoesterase, phosphotriesterase, and inorganic pyrophosphatase in soil. The experiment was carried out on loamy sand samples with organic carbon content of 8.71 g · kg -1 , with the following variable factors: dosages of creosote: 0, 0.5%, and 2.5%; type of LMWOAs: oxalic acid, tartaric acid, and citric acid in the amount of 50 mmol · kg -1 of soil; days of experiment: 1, 7, 14, 28, 56, 112. Obtained results showed that contamination with creosote caused decrease in the activity of soil phosphatases. The observed effect did not always incre…
