The chapter describes an analytical scheme designed for investigating the mathematical discourse of biology tasks. The scheme was developed in the context of analysing tasks that are part of a fisheries management graduate-level course at a Norwegian university. Grounded in the commognitive perspective, the scheme focuses on the following aspects of the tasks: the mathematical content, its relation to biology discourse and students’ expected engagement with both discourses. Abstract The aim of the study was to analyze changes in students’ self‐determined motivation and goal orientation following a one academic‐year intervention that was directed toward increasing task‐involvement during physical education lessons. After adjusting for initial differences, students in the intervention classes were more self‐determined by the end of the year than students in the control group. Additionally, the experimental group decreased in external regulation, whereas, it increased in the control group. Abstract Home care workers are a priority population for ergonomic assessment and intervention, but research on caregivers' exposures to hazards is limited. The current project evaluated the reliability and validity of an ergonomic self-assessment tool called Home Care STAT (Safety Task Assessment Tool). Participants (N = 23) completed a background survey followed by 10–14 days of self-monitoring with the STAT. Results showed that the most frequent task was house cleaning, and that participants regularly performed dangerous manual client moving and transferring tasks. Abstract The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of feedback on self-efficacy, performance, and task choice, and the mediating effects of self-efficacy in the feedback-performance and task choice relationships. Implicit Learning of Regularities in Western Tonal Music by Self-Organization

Western tonal music is a highly structured system whose regularities are implicitly learned in everyday life. A hierarchical self-organizing network simulates learning of tonal regularities by mere exposure to musical material. The trained network provides a parsimonious account of empirical findings on perceived tone, chord and key relationships and suggests activation as a unifying mechanism underlying a range of cognitive tasks.
