Attributes should account for consumers' perceptions and be understood by professionals for efficient communication. Abstract Do beer experts have better recognition memory for beers than novices? And can recognition memory for beers be predicted on the basis of recognition memory for beer odor compounds? We compared the memory performance of “beer experts” and novices in two recognition tasks. The first task was performed ortho- and retronasally with beers, and the second orthonasally with beer odor compounds. The present study aimed at exploring whether an olfactory food cue could have an impact on food choices. It is critical for knowledge bases to capture the reality in direct and intuitive way. OWL ontology language was designed for this goal. In this paper we study the limitations of the OWL open world semantics for the task of knowledge capture and retrieval. We propose a new mechanism based on the closed world semantics that alleviates part of the limitations. Further we describe a system where both OWL and the new mechanisms interoperate together. Finally, we outline some immediate applications and further research directions.
Effect of Prime Type on Lexical Decision Time

The present investigation concerns the issues of the control condition and type of related prime-target relationship operationalization in the lexical-decision paradigm. It is shown that the use of a row of asterisks produces strong inhibitory effects on reaction time to the target relative to a control condition formed with the word “neutro” (“neutral”). The operationalization of prime-target relatedness by means of association of category norms seems equally adequate, although category exemplars do not prime category exemplar targets. Both sets of data are discussed in relation to current research trends using lexical-decision time.
