Search for a Dark Leptophilic Scalar in e(+) e(-) Collisions

Many scenarios of physics beyond the standard model predict the existence of new gauge singlets, which might be substantially lighter than the weak scale. The experimental constraints on additional scalars with masses in the MeV to GeV range could be significantly weakened if they interact predominantly with leptons rather than quarks. At an e+e- collider, such a leptophilic scalar (φL) would be produced predominantly through radiation from a τ lepton. We report herein a search for e+e-→τ+τ-φL, φL→ℓ+ℓ- (ℓ=e, μ) using data collected by the BABAR experiment at SLAC. Empezamos la parte dedicada a la compresión de imágenes haciendo un repaso sobre fundamentos de compresión de imágenes y explicando algunos estándares. Describimos los algoritmos EZW y SPIHT con detalle en el apéndice A. Hay aplicaciones de compresión de datos, donde el control de calidad es de suma importancia. Alpu kreimules herbāriji Latvijas Universitātes Muzejā

Alpu kreimule Pinguicula alpina L. ir rets augs, kurš šobrīd vairs nav sastopams Latvijas flora. Tā vienīgā dabīgā augtene bija uz Staburaga Daugavas krastā. Pļaviņu HES būvniecibas rezultātā tā tika iznīcināta. Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja herbārijā Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijās glabājas šā auga herbāriji gan no Latvijas, gan Igaunijas. Šeit atrodas gan senākais ievāktais herbārijs uz Staburaga, gan pēdējais, kas tika šeit ievākts 1961. gadā.

Limit on the diffuse flux of ultrahigh energy tau neutrinos with the surface detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory

Data collected at the Pierre Auger Observatory are used to establish an upper limit on the diffuse flux of tau neutrinos in the cosmic radiation. Earth-skimming ντ may interact in the Earth's crust and produce a τ lepton by means of charged-current interactions. The τ lepton may emerge from the Earth and decay in the atmosphere to produce a nearly horizontal shower with a typical signature, a persistent electromagnetic component even at very large atmospheric depths.
