Data from: Moving in the Anthropocene: global reductions in terrestrial mammalian movements

Animal movement is fundamental for ecosystem functioning and species survival, yet the effects of the anthropogenic footprint on animal movements have not been estimated across species. Using a unique GPS-tracking database of 803 individuals across 57 species, we found that movements of mammals in areas with a comparatively high human footprint were on average one-half to one-third the extent of their movements in areas with a low human footprint. We attribute this reduction to behavioral changes of individual animals and to the exclusion of species with long-range movements from areas with higher human impact. Se describe una nueva subespecie de Centaurea aspera L. (sect. Seridia (Juss.) DC., Asteraceae) procedente de las dunas fósiles del Parque Natural de Serra Gelada (L’Alfàs del Pi y Benidorm, Alicante, España). Se proporcionan datos morfológicos y ecológicos que permiten la diferenciación de la nueva subespecie con sus dos parientes cercanos C. aspera subsp. aspera y C. aspera subsp. stenophylla. Abstract Background Respiratory symptoms are common in competitive swimmers. However, among these and in swimmers at other activity levels the swimming distance, the total spent time in swimming halls and their medical background varies. Biomarkers Related to Synaptic Dysfunction to Discriminate Alzheimer’s Disease from Other Neurological Disorders

Recently, the synaptic proteins neurogranin (Ng) and α-synuclein (α-Syn) have attracted scientific interest as potential biomarkers for synaptic dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, we measured the CSF Ng and α-Syn concentrations in patients affected by AD (n = 69), non-AD neurodegenerative disorders (n-AD = 50) and non-degenerative disorders (n-ND, n = 98). The concentrations of CSF Ng and α-Syn were significantly higher in AD than in n-AD and n-ND. Today ancient Noto is a medieval archaeological site, yet to be discovered. After the 1693 earthquake, the ancient city of Noto, in the middle of the Baroque period, was rebuilt in another place and the ancient city was abandoned. The first excavation campaign in ancient Noto by Paolo Orsi dates back to the period between 1894 and 1896. In the following years there will be other excavation campaigns, in which other architectural and sculptural relics will be found. They are today part of the collection of the Civic Museum. Il contributo ripercorre le fasi di ricerca finalizzate allo studio del Teatro greco romano e dell'Odèon di Catania, alla caratterizzazione della forme di degradazione delle testimonianze archeologiche ed alla definizione di un progetto di conservazione integrata da nuovi innesti architettonici e da un programma di rifunzionalizzazione dell'intero complesso. The contribution traces the research phases aimed at the study of the Greek-Roman Theater and the Odèon of Catania, at the characterization of the forms of degradation of the archaeological remains, and at the definition of a conservation project integrated by new architectures and by a re-functionalization program of the whole complex.
