Imidazole-amino acids. Conformational switch under tautomer and pH change.

AbstractReplacement of the main chain peptide bond by imidazole ring seems to be a promising tool for the peptide-based drug design, due to the specific prototropic tautomeric as well as amphoteric properties. In this study, we present that both tautomer and pH change can cause a conformational switch of the studied residues of alanine (1–4) and dehydroalanine (5–8) with the C-terminal peptide group replaced by imidazole. The DFT methods are applied and an environment of increasing polarity is simulated. Muscimol hydration and vibrational spectroscopy – The impact of explicit and implicit water

The presented study focuses on the interaction of the well-known neurotoxin muscimol with water. Two approaches for the water solvent are applied – the explicit and the implicit. The muscimol-water clusters were obtained by the molecular dynamics simulations and the first solvation shell was kept for further studies. Implicit water was mimicked via the polarized continuum model (PCM). All three tautomeric forms of the free muscimol molecule are considered in the calculations. Endosseous dental implant fractures an analysis of 21 cases

Implant fracture is an infrequent cause of implant failure. The present study evaluates 21 fractured implants, with an analysis of patient age and sex, the type, length and diameter of the implant, positioning in the dental arch, the type of prosthetic rehabilitation involved, the number of abutments and pontics, the presence or absence of distal extensions or cantilevers, and loading time to fracture. Implant fracture was more common in males than in females (15:4), and the mean patient age was 56.9 years. En las últimas décadas del siglo XIX se afianza en Valencia una enérgica corriente de opinión sensibilizada ante el gran deterioro en que se hallan las máximas expresiones artísticas del pasado de la ciudad, sobre todo los monumentos góticos, reivindicándose su conservación y restauración ante la amenaza de su pérdida o continuo menoscabo. Ante tal realidad, diversas instituciones, como tutelares del patrimonio histórico-artístico, especialmente el Ayuntamiento, tomarán conciencia del problema y de la necesidad de promover y ejecutar las medidas necesarias para remediarlo. Epidemiologic studies have documented an association between diabetes and increased risk of cognitive decline in the elderly. Based on animal model studies, several mechanisms have been proposed to explain such an association, including central insulin signaling, neurodegeneration, brain amyloidosis, and neuroinflammation. Nevertheless, the exact mechanisms in humans remain poorly defined. It is reasonable, however, that many pathways may be involved in these patients leading to cognitive impairment.
