Diversity and taxonomy of the genus Unio Philipsson in Italy, with the designation of a neotype for Unio elongatulus C. Pfeiffer (Mollusca, Bivalvia,…

2019

Novel Unio spp. populations from Slovenia, the Italian peninsula, Sardinia and Sicily were genetically analysed in order to define the distribution and diversity of the genus Unio in Italy and neighbouring areas. The presence of two primarily allopatric autochtonous species, Unio elongatulus Pfeiffer, and Unio mancus Lamarck, is confirmed for the Italian peninsula, Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily. Autochthonous populations of Unio elongatulus are present in the peri-Adriatic drainages of the Italian and Balkan peninsulas, south as far as the Ofanto River (Apulia, Italy) and Lake Skadar (Albania), while its presence in the Tyrrhenian rivers of Tuscany is likely due to anthropogenic introductio…

Chryseobacterium potabilaquae sp. nov., Chryseobacterium aquaeductus sp. nov. and Chryseobacterium fistulae sp. nov., from drinking water systems

2021

A polyphasic taxonomic study was conducted on three strains isolated from drinking water systems that had previously been deposited as Chryseobacterium species at the Spanish Type Culture Collection in order to complete their classification. Strains CECT 9293T, CECT 9390T and CECT 9393T were isolated from sites in Barcelona, Spain, in the framework of a project aimed at generating the first MALDI-TOF database specific for bacteria present in water for human consumption. Their partial 16S rRNA sequences showed that their closest relatives among the type strains of Chryseobacterium exhibited 98 % similarity or less, supporting their taxonomic novelty. At the same time, comparison between them…

Spatial processes driving soil microbial community assembly on a wide scale

2012

International audience; Soil houses a huge biodiversity involved in ecological services through microbial community assembly. However, processes driving soil microbial community assembly are still scarcely understood, particularly the relative importance of environmental heterogeneity regarding to dispersal limitations. This can be achieved through studying the determinism of taxa-area relationship (TAR, how community composition change with geographic distance), a fundamental relationship in ecology. Here, a biogeographical approach was applied on a wide scale to evaluate TAR for soil bacterial and fungal communities and to partition their spatial variations into environmental heterogeneit…

Contrasting Spatial Patterns and Ecological Attributes of Soil Bacterial Taxa across French National Territory

2017

EA SPE BIOME GENOSOL UB UB Agrosup EA SPE BIOME GENOSOL UB UB AgrosupEASPEBIOMEGENOSOLUB UB Agrosup; Even though recent studies have clarified the influence of environmental filters on bacterial community diversity, those constraining bacterial populations variations remain unclear. In consequence, our ability to understand the ecological attributes of soil bacteria and to predict microbial community response to environmental stress is therefore limited. Here, we characterized the bacterial community composition and the various bacterial taxonomic groups constituting the community across the French country, by using a 16x16 km systematic grid representing 1825 sites to precisely decipher th…

Money, "finance" and interest

1993

The purpose of this paper is to show that there is no such thing as a pure money interest in the usual meaning of the phrase, that is, interest bearing on pure bank money. Basically, money cannot bear interest because it is not a net asset. This does not however imply that banks cannot charge interest on liquidities they have created. The concept of "finance" brings to light the process through which a liquid capital owned by the banks is formed in the economy. It then becomes clearer that what is commonly called "money interest" paid to banks is in fact a macroeconomic cost of production and therefore a net asset for the whole of the economy, including the banks.

Prvi nalazi dinoflagelata roda Dicroerisma (Actiniscales, Dinophyceae) na Sredozemnom moru

2011

This study is the first to describe and illustrate the dinoflagellate genus Dicroerisma in the Mediterranean Sea. Twenty individuals ascribed to Dicroerisma psilonereiella were encountered. The highest abundance (12 cells L-1) was recorded in the Balearic Sea at 50 m depth. Other specimens were found in subsurface waters (>75 m depth, with some records at 250 m depth) in the Ionian and Levantine Basin. These findings suggest that Dicroerisma is a widespread genus and its presence has gone unnoticed due to its small size, deep water distribution and misidentification with other gymnodinioid cells.

Temperature-responsive inclusion complex of cationic PNIPAAM diblock copolymer and γ-cyclodextrin

2012

Aqueous mixtures of γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) and the thermosensitive cationic diblock copolymer poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-b-poly(3-acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride (PNIPAAM24-b-PAMPTAM(+)9) or the PNIPAAM homopolymer PNIPAAM47 have been investigated using various experimental methods. Solid γ-CD–polymer inclusion complexes (pseudopolyrotaxanes) form at ambient temperatures in fairly concentrated CD solutions. The NMR measurements showed that the stoichiometry of the inclusion complexes is close to two NIPAAM units per CD molecule. The cationic block of the copolymer is not incorporated into the CD cavity. Synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction spectra of the solid inclusion compl…
