Why Do Users Switch Mobile Applications? : Trialing Behavior as a Predecessor of Switching Behavior

2018

Mobile application providers face high user losses because users can easily and often switch to an alternative application. Researchers have recently started to study information technology (IT) switching. However, no studies have concentrated on the unique context of mobile applications. Mobile application switching differs from the switching behavior related to many other IT products and services because of the highlighted role of alternatives, beta versions, updates, reviews, and users’ spontaneous behavior. To address this gap, we develop a mobile-specific model by using a qualitative research approach. As a theoretical contribution, we introduce trialing behavior as a predecessor of sw…

Interactive Multiple Criteria Decision Making based on preference driven Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization with controllable accuracy

2012

Abstract We present an approach to interactive Multiple Criteria Decision Making based on preference driven Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization with controllable accuracy. The approach relies on formulae for lower and upper bounds on coordinates of the outcome of an arbitrary efficient variant corresponding to preference information expressed by the Decision Maker. In contrast to earlier works on that subject, here lower and upper bounds can be calculated and their accuracy controlled entirely within evolutionary computation framework. This is made possible by exploration of not only the region of feasible variants – a standard within evolutionary optimization, but also the region of i…

Functional inequalities for generalized inverse trigonometric and hyperbolic functions

2014

Various miscellaneous functional inequalities are deduced for the so-called generalized inverse trigonometric and hyperbolic functions. For instance, functional inequalities for sums, difference and quotient of generalized inverse trigonometric and hyperbolic functions are given, as well as some Gr\"unbaum inequalities with the aid of the classical Bernoulli inequality. Moreover, by means of certain already derived bounds, bilateral bounding inequalities are obtained for the generalized hypergeometric ${}_3F_2$ Clausen function.

Context-aware data caching for 5G heterogeneous small cells networks

2016

In this work, we investigate the problem of context-aware data caching in the heterogeneous small cell networks (HSCNs) to provide satisfactory to the end-users in reducing the service latency. In particular, we explore the storage capability of base stations (BSs) in HSCNs and propose a data caching model consists of edge caching elements (CAEs), small cell base stations (SBSs), and macro cell BS (MBS). Then, we concentrate on how to efficiently match the data contents to the different cache entities in order to minimize the overall system service latency. We model it as a distributed college admission (CA) stable matching problem and tackle this issue by utilizing contextual information t…

Sir Thomas More's Utopia : An overlooked economic classic

2019

Sir Thomas More's Utopia, published in 1516, is a classic work of how to organise a society based on common property. With a unique mix of common property, institutions and sound economic insights, we argue that More built a framework for a society that could be viable in the long run. While the conditions that make Utopia work are quite restrictive, it does provide a sketch of a society where common property may not stifle long‐term development, but is associated with productive workers and people content with their lives.

Realizing the social acceptance of community renewable energy: A process-outcome analysis of stakeholder influence

2014

This study shows how stakeholders influence the development of community renewable energy (CRE) schemes and how they are influenced by their outcome. It relies on information collected during 41 structured interviews with local people involved in CRE initiatives in seven regions of Europe. The interviews were thematically analyzed to identify different types of stakeholder influence. The findings show that stakeholder influence on CRE schemes take place at three distinct levels: macro, intercommunity and intracommunity. In addition, key stakeholders can support or hinder the development of a project according to whether or not they perceive that the output of the project may benefit or harm…

A Cluster Analysis Approach to Profile Men and Women’s Volley Positions in Professional Tennis Matches (Doubles)

2021

(1) Background: Tennis ball tracking technology allows the aquirement of novel and reliable data about several performance indicators, such as volley positions. This information is key to understand match dynamics in doubles tennis and to better help preparing players for the demands they will face in match play. As such, the purpose of this study was to describe and compare the different types of volley positions in men’s and women’s doubles professional tennis. (2) Methods: Ball tracking data were collected for 46 women (Billie Jean King Cup) and 96 men’s doubles matches (Davis Cup). The variables used were the distance to the net, the distance to the centre of the court and the height of…

Ikääntymisen vaikutus visuaaliseen prosessointiin

2012

Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää aivojen automaattisen muutoksen havaitsemisjärjestelmän toimintaa visuaalisessa järjestelmässä tapahtumasidonnaisten herätevasteiden (ERP) avulla. Lisäksi tutkielmassa haluttiin selvittää ikääntymisen mahdollisia vaikutuksia tämän järjestelmän toimintaan vertailemalla toisiinsa terveiden nuorten aikuisten (n=19, 22-27 vuotta) ja ikääntyneiden (n=10, 69-95 vuotta) visuaalisia herätevasteita N2- ja P3 -komponenteissa. Visuaalinen herätevaste, jota tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin, oli poikkeavuusnegatiivisuus (mismatch negativity, MMN). Tutkielmassa ERP:t rekisteröitiin elektroenkefalografialla (EEG) ja passiivisen oddball -paradigman avulla. …
