Right atrial contractile dynamics are impaired in patients with postcapillary pulmonary hypertension.

2015

Left ventricular (LV) dysfunction in conjunction with postcapillary pulmonary hypertension (PH) is frequently associated with right ventricular (RV) dysfunction, determining the patient prognosis. Compensatory mechanisms for RV dysfunction have not been previously evaluated in detail. Since calcium dependent right atrial (RA) dynamics are a surrogate for RA contractile properties, the present study examined the calcium dependency of RA tissue obtained from patients with or without postcapillary PH. In total, 15 patients with PH (PH group; mean age, 70.7±7.2 years) and 10 patients without postcapillary PH (non-PH group; mean age, 55.7±11.8 years) who were scheduled to undergo elective left h…

Use of HepG2 cell line for direct or indirect mutagens screening: comparative investigation between comet and micronucleus assays.

2003

International audience; In the present study, DNA-damage and clastogenic or aneugenic effects of genotoxic compounds were examined in a metabolically competent human cell line (HepG2 cells) using the micronucleus and the comet assays. Compounds with various action mechanisms were tested: direct mutagens such as 4-nitroquinoline-N-oxide (4-NQO) and methyl methanesulfonate (MMS) and indirect mutagens requiring biotransformation to be active such as N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) and 2-acetylaminofluorene (2-AAF). The compounds were first tested for cytotoxicity by measuring their effects on RNA synthesis inhibition in HepG2 cells. 4-NQO, B[a]P and 2-AAF were the most po…

The autoradiographic test for unscheduled DNA synthesis: a sensitive assay for the detection of DNA repair in the HepG2 cell line

2004

International audience; We assessed the DNA-repair capacity of HepG2 cells, which were derived from a human hepatoma, by the unscheduled DNA synthesis assay, using the autoradiography protocol (UDS-AR). We evaluated DNA repair following exposure to direct mutagens (4-nitroquinoline-N-oxide (4-NQO), methyl methanesulfonate (MMS)), to mutagens requiring metabolic activation (benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P), 2-acetylaminofluorene (2-AAF), N-dimethylnitrosoamine (NDMA)) or to structurally related non-mutagens such as pyrene and 4-acetylaminofluorene (4-AAF). All positive compounds tested induced UDS in HepG2 cells. With 4-NQO and MMS, a concentration-dependent increase in net nuclear grains per cell was…

Seasonal diet-based resistance to anticoagulant rodenticides in the fossorial water vole (Arvicola amphibius)

2021

International audience; Anticoagulant rodenticides (AR) resistance has been defined as "a major loss of efficacy due to the presence of a strain of rodent with a heritable and commensurately reduced sensitivity to the anticoagulant". The mechanism that supports this resistance has been identified as based on mutations in the Vkorc1 gene leading to severe resistance in rats and mice. This study evaluates the validity of this definition in the fossorial water vole and explores the possibility of a non-genetic diet-based resistance in a strict herbivorous rodent species. Genetic support was explored by sequencing the Vkorc1 gene and the diet-based resistance was explored by the dosing of vitam…

The boundless increase of people suffering from an Eating Disorder (ED), makes necessary to develop measures related to other factors, in order to overcome the ones characterized of being strictly sanitary. The disease has become a social and cultural phenomenon. The exaltation of the cult to the body, with the stereotype of the extreme thinness linked with beauty and success is causing that, particularly young people, try to achieve an image which, in many cases, can jeopardize their health, that is the reason why the rearrangement of values has become an objective of paramount importance. Granice zewnętrzne Unii Europejskiej a bezpieczeństwo narodowe państw członkowskich w kontekście współczesnego kryzysu migracyjnego

2016

EU régulations and general principles

2015

International audience; This engineering book brings together two of the key strands in food packaging: active packaging and natural, often biobased, components. The text investigates the chemistry, effects and technical incorporation of bioactives into different forms of packaging. Specifically, chapters focus on techniques for impregnating natural substances into conventional and biodegradable food packaging materials with an emphasis on their antioxidant and antimicrobial functions. Oxygen scavengers, plant extracts, essential oils, enzymes, phytochemicals, polysaccharides are investigated. Chapters discuss how bioactives are combined with packaging to suppress microbes and improve the q…
