Starting points of multilateral learning in implementing a music project by utilizing music education technology

2017

The purpose of the research was to find out what kind of connections a music project based on multilateral learning has on pupils’ (children’s) actions and learning when using music education technology as a tool, and how the music project affected the class teacher students’ shared cognition and the development of their professional identity. Pedagoginen etiikka koulukasvatuksen karttana ja kompassina

2004

Tutkimuksen tehtävänä oli kuvata opettajaksi opiskelevien 1) käsityksiä opettajan työn eettisestä luonteesta, 2) näkemyksiä ohjaajan, opettajan ja kouluttajan työn eettisistä haasteista käytännössä, 3) oikeudenmukaisuutta koskevia menettelytapoja sekä 4) pedagogista etiikkaa määritteleviä kuvauksia. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin vuosina 2001-2003 Joensuun yliopiston kasvatustieteiden tiedekunnassa opettajaksi opiskelevilta osana opettajan pedagogisiin opintoihin kuuluvaa pedagogisen etiikan opintojaksoa. Eettisiä käsityksiä koskevan aineiston laajuus oli 185 opiskelijaa, eettisesti haasteellisten tilanteiden kuvauksia saatiin 310 opiskelijalta, oikeudenmukaisuutta koskevia menettelytapoja arvi…

Exploring dialogical spaces of discovery

2023

This paper revisits two teacher-education contexts which we independently researched. Both contexts invested in teacher-professional transformation, presenting unique puzzles in our respective data analyses. Bringing together Bakhtinian dialogic theory and Natural Inclusionality (Rayner, 2017), we return to these puzzles in a reflective dialogue. The paper unpacks two emergent themes. The first theme details our sense-making of the dialogic-dialectic-dialogic flow as part of professional development, and the second theme captures our deliberations about the energy-filled spaces of the in-between that form part of teacher development in our contexts. The paper discusses key insights about th…

Patterns of university teachers’ approaches to teaching, professional development and perceived departmental cultures

2019

Many studies have been conducted about academics’ approaches to teaching, professional development and perceived departmental culture, but their interconnectedness has been considered to a lesser extent. The research presented here examined these patterns comparatively by disciplinary fields and years of teaching experience. Three inventories were filled in by 1141 academics from one Finnish and two Hungarian universities. Based on a hierarchical cluster analysis, four patterns emerged: (1) Experimenters with diverse teaching approaches; (2) Experimenters perceiving their department’s culture as most supportive and collaborative; (3) Individualistic knowledge-focused teachers; and (4) Stude…

Language choice in EFL teaching : student teachers' perceptions

2012

Teaching competences in Secondary Education : analysis of teachers’ profiles

2014

This paper reports some of the findings from a study that aimed to analyse the importance attributed by secondary education teachers from the province of Castellón (Spain) to teaching competencies and to establish professional profiles from their responses. The survey was based on a purposely designed questionnaire answered by a representative sample of 136 secondary teachers from Castellón, representing 23 school departments. From an analysis of the responses we identified three professional profiles based on the importance that teachers attribute to a range of competencies; although all the competencies were valued highly, we found that teachers still consider the traditional delivery of …
