Una nuova tappa del percorso OSDOTTA
2011
This is the sixth and latest publication from the same series, which has covered the previous editions of the annual OSDOTTA Network (OServatorio del DOTtorato in Tecnologia dell’Architettura; lit. observatory of Phd studies in t…
Vernacular and bioclimatic architecture and indoor thermal comfort implications in hot-humid climates: An overview
2018
Abstract Sustainable urban development, especially in disadvantaged regions, has increasingly gained a major strategic priority. New settlements and urban regeneration programs have to achieve an improvement of social life quality, promote economic growth and increase environmental protection practices and proper use of local resources. In this framework, building environment development must exploit natural resources with responsible approach by using local materials and traditional techniques. In this end, indoor comfort and energy consumption have to match the territories needs. Low energy and passive heating/cooling techniques should be considered as a valid option in many building proj…
Scenarios of Climatic Resilience, Economic Feasibility and Environmental Sustainability for the Refurbishment of the Early 20th Century Buildings
2019
This paper aims to examine the theme of energy retrofit within the circumscribed field of refurbishment interventions on load-bearing masonry buildings built in the early 20th century. These include a remarkable share of the fabric of many European cities and, in particular, they can be found in geographical areas characterized by a Mediterranean (mild) climate. The main objective is to increase the climate resilience of the buildings by verifying the economic feasibility and the environmental sustainability of the interventions at the same time observing the specific architectural features of the buildings. We put forward alternative retrofit solutions carrying out synoptic comparisons of …
New Technologies for Adaptive Architecture
2019
Since the 1980s, the bioclimatic architecture has had the historical merit of having raised public and experts’ awareness on the importance of designing buildings with the purpose of solving the problem of energy saving. Nowadays, in the light of the most recent energy strategies policies, in force on an international and European scale, codified in EC Directive 31/2010 concerning the implementation of the Nearly Zer-Energy Buildings (NZEB), (Deru et al. 2006), the need for a new approach to redevelopment that focuses on environmental, climate and energy objectives with innovative technological solutions emerges, aimed at optimizing the passive bioclimatic behaviour of a building. In the wo…
The ‘use’ in the reliable interventions on the Mediterranean architectural heritage
2015
The multifaceted crisis of the Mediterranean area on the background of the global scenario introduces the strategic significance of the architectural heritage as an element of shared identity and factor of durable development. Some aspects of contemporary crisis referring to the specific operational field are discussed. The paper points out the research of reliable interventions as a tool to face many of the common critical situations and to prevent the technical risk. The ‘use’ is proposed as a term of reference, aimed to guide synthetically the decision process, to evaluate the achieved results, and contributing to the reliability. After introducing the topic of the use in the architectur…
CATASTROPHES AND BUILDING ABUSES
2012
The contributions analyze the land's vulnerability and abusive built's vulnerability. It describes the risks related to natural and artificial disasters and also investigates the use of appropriate technologies to protect and preserve the existing assets.
ABUSIVENESS AND ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS
2012
In Italy abusiveness story is well known. It started with the rebuilding after the war. A destroyed and poor nation where the so called “needful abusiveness” dominated, it was often linked to the so called economical buildings, with the urgency to build the roof as to practically avoids demolition risk. And with the interest to escape also from the growing tax imposition on houses. We add to all this the contemporary phenomenon of urbanization that voided countries and asked for more living spaces in town, with the consequent building boom. Anyway, from the building by those who were directly interested, we passed very soon to real building speculation phenomena, sometimes possible thanks t…
Advances in Utopian Studies and Sacred Architecture : a culmination of selected research papers from the International Conference on Utopian and Sacr…
2021
This book, on Advances in Utopian Studies and Sacred Architecture, contains selected research from the International Conference on Utopian and Sacred Architecture Studies which was held in association with the university of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” of Italy. Research from the conference has undergone a rigorous review process thanks to the book editors and scientific committee of reviewers. The book explores the interdisciplinary field of utopian studies and specifically the relationship between architecture and utopia as one that is long- standing and pervasive. It namely draws upon the transition and even intersections between contemporary and historical geographies of sacred architect…
La leggerezza del lamellare. Una realizzazione e un progetto
2009
