Resource Allocation and Computation Offloading for Wireless Powered Mobile Edge Computing
2022
In this paper, we investigate a resource allocation and computation offloading problem in a heterogeneous mobile edge computing (MEC) system. In the considered system, a wireless power transfer (WPT) base station (BS) with an MEC sever is able to deliver wireless energy to the mobile devices (MDs), and the MDs can utilize the harvested energy for local computing or task offloading to the WPT BS or a Macro BS (MBS) with a stronger computing server. In particular, we consider that the WPT BS can utilize full- or half-duplex wireless energy transmission mode to empower the MDs. The aim of this work focuses on optimizing the offloading decision, full/half-duplex energy harvesting mode and energ…
European Women Writers Translated into Spanish in the Eighteenth-Century: a Global Approach
2012
In eighteenth-century Spain, translations of women authors (and more generally, their being known -read, but also simply heard of- by the Spanish public) were vital in building of a legitimacy for women's reading, writing and publishing. Due to the lack of intellectual references in their own country, Spanish eighteenth-century women writers had to find predecessors in their contemporaries in Europe, particularly in France, to resignify the figure of the woman writer and intellectual, in an age when discourses on gender and women's presence in new public spaces of sociability and the republic of letters were undergoing significant challenges. The presence of works by female authors translat…
Characterization of three-dimensional microstructure of composite materials by X-ray tomography
2016
Analysis methods for X-ray microtomographic images of short fibre composite materials were developed. The methods enable estimation of microstructural properties of the material, e.g., aspect ratio and orientation of fibres. Being based on X-ray microtomography and image analysis, the methods are nondestructive and do not require user intervention. In particular, a method for determination of the aspect ratio of fibres was first developed. The method contains an assumption about similarity of the shape of the fibres. The assumption was relaxed in an improved method that can estimate cross-sectional properties of fibres, too, e.g., cross-sectional area. Additionally, the effect of finite ima…
Sustainable Supercapacitors Based on Polypyrrole-Doped Activated Biochar from Wood Waste Electrodes
2023
The synthesis of high-performance carbon-based materials from biomass residues for electrodes has been considered a challenge to achieve in supercapacitor-based production. In this work, activated biochar has been prepared as the active electrode material for supercapacitors (SCs), and an effective method has been explored to boost its capacitive performance by employing polypyrrole (PPy) as a biochar dopant. The results for physicochemical characterization data have demonstrated that PPy doping affects the biochar morphology, specific surface area, pore structure, and incorporation of surface functionalities on modified biochar. Biochar-PPy exhibited a surface area of 87 m2 g−1, while pris…
I manufatti lignei, restaurati di recente, vengono indagati in riferimento alla pertinente temperie culturale e, pertanto, raffrontati con altri simulacri coevi Subject of the contribution are the Immaculate Conception and the Archangel Michael kept respectively in the Cathedral of Piazza Armerina and in the Mother Church of…
Ogni manufatto è collocato nella pertinente temperie culturale The contribution investigates the wooden sculptures located in the church of Santa Maria la Porta in Geraci Siculo. These are works performed from the 16th to the 17th century by sculptors attested not only in the Madonie village but also in other island realities. Each artifact is placed in the pertinent cultural climate
2023
Wittgenstein's theories offer the starting point for looking at the socio-political implications of the language spoken by the institutions in the various historical phases: the communication system with which they relate to the outside world is functional in conveying the sense and scope of their action, building a precise relationship with public opinion. Starting from this assumption, the contribution takes into consideration some aspects of the recent practice of the Constitutional Court, with particular regard to press releases, and proposes an interpretation of the communication breakthrough pursued in recent years, relating it to the exercise of the function of warranty.
Work commitment and engagement in south Italian volunteers
2009
Objectives. Recent research on volunteering has increased its interest in integrating different theoretical models such as motivational and socio-psychological ones. The current research replicates and extends a Swiss survey (Guntert, 2008) among a sample of Italian volunteers. The aim was to examine the antecedents (mainly in terms of motivational factors and identification) of outcomes such as commitment and engagement towards volunteering. Methods. To examine these antecedents and the outcomes, a questionnaire was administered to a sample of 165 young Italian adults who were engaged in various voluntary associations in south Italy (Campania and Sicilia). Results. Our analyses, underlinin…
