HDR Imaging Pipeline for Spectral Filter Array Cameras

2017

Multispectral single shot imaging systems can benefit computer vision applications in needs of a compact and affordable imaging system. Spectral filter arrays technology meets the requirement, but can lead to artifacts due to inhomogeneous intensity levels between spectral channels due to filter manufacturing constraints, illumination and object properties. One solution to solve this problem is to use high dynamic range imaging techniques on these sensors. We define a spectral imaging pipeline that incorporates high dynamic range, demosaicing and color image visualization. Qualitative evaluation is based on real images captured with a prototype of spectral filter array sensor in the visible…

Validity and Reliability of an Instrumented Treadmill with an Accelerometry System for Assessment of Spatio-Temporal Parameters and Impact Transmissi…

2021

Running retraining programs focused on concurrent feedback of acceleration impacts have been demonstrated to be a good strategy to reduce running-related injuries (RRI), as well as to improve running economy and reduce acceleration impacts and injury running incidence. Traditionally, impacts have been registered by mean of accelerometers attached directly to the athletes, which is inaccessible to the entire population, because it requires laboratory conditions. This study investigated the validity and reliability of a new device integrated directly into the treadmill, compared to a traditional acceleration impact system. Thirty healthy athletes with no history of RRI were tested on two sepa…

Multimodality 3-dimensional volumetric ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology with an emphasis in HDlive technique.

2013

HDlive (high-definition live or real-time US), a new ultrasound software, combines a movable virtual adjustable light source in a software that calculates the proportion of light reflecting through surface structures, depending on light direction. The light source can be manually positioned to illuminate the desired area of interest. The ultrasound technician can control light intensity to create shadows that enhance image quality. HDlive is an innovation that will render even more realistic images of fetal anatomy and of gynecologic lesions. The full potential of this new technology is yet to be determined and deserves scientific evaluation.

Broad-beam transmission data for new brachytherapy sources, Tm-170 and Yb-169

2005

The characteristics of the radionuclides (170)Tm and (169)Yb are highly interesting for their use as high dose-rate brachytherapy sources. The introduction of brachytherapy equipment containing these sources will lead to smaller required thicknesses of the materials used in radiation protection barriers compared with the use of conventional sources such as (192)Ir and (137)Cs. The purpose of this study is to determine the required thicknesses of protection material for the design of the protecting walls. Using the Monte Carlo method, transmission data were derived for broad-beam geometries through lead and concrete barriers, from which the first half value layer and tenth value layer are ob…

Upper-Extremity Blocks

1988

Brachial plexus block was first performed in 1885 by William Steward Halsted, who used cocaine and direct exposure of the roots in the neck to accomplish the block. In 1911, Hirschel and Kulenkampff described the first percutaneous brachial plexus block by the axillary and supraclavicular routes respectively. Since these historic reports, the efficacy of brachial plexus block has been confirmed, and the block is now commonly used to provide upperextremity anesthesia.

Blood Pressure Monitoring in Cardiovascular Disease

2017

While the practice of taking blood pressure readings at the physician’s office continues to be valid, home blood pressure monitoring is being increasingly used to enhance diagnostic accuracy and ensure a more personalized follow-up of patients. In the case of white coat hypertension and resistant arterial hypertension, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is indispensable. Recent studies attach great importance to nocturnal blood pressure patterns, with a reduction in these becoming a treatment goal, a strategy known as chronotherapy. Home blood pressure monitoring is useful for both diagnosis and follow-up of arterial hypertension. Its use, particularly if combined with other patient-suppo…
