Performance analysis of underlay two-way relay cooperation in cognitive radio networks with energy harvesting
2018
Abstract Cognitive radio and energy harvesting are two important approaches to solve the problem of spectrum scarcity and energy constraint in wireless communications. In this work, we study a two-way relay cooperation scheme in underlay cognitive radio networks (CRNs) with energy harvesting in which two secondary users exchange information via an energy harvesting relay node. Since the relay node collects energy from the received signals and utilizes it to forward the information, the secondary transmission power can be markedly reduced. Therefore the interference of the secondary network to the primary network can be substantially reduced. We derive the outage probability of the secondary…
A novel faster failure detection strategy for link connectivity using Hello messaging in mobile ad hoc networks
2019
Faster failure detection is one of the main steps responsible for efficient link connectivity in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). Under a random behaviour of network nodes and link/node failure, th...
On optimal deployment of low power nodes for high frequency next generation wireless systems
2018
Recent development of wireless communication systems and standards is characterized by constant increase of allocated spectrum resources. Since lower frequency ranges cannot provide sufficient amount of bandwidth, new bands are allocated at higher frequencies, for which operators resort to deploy more base stations to ensure the same coverage and to utilize more efficiently higher frequencies spectrum. Striving for deployment flexibility, mobile operators can consider deploying low power nodes that could be either small cells connected via the wired backhaul or relays that utilize the same spectrum and the wireless access technology. However, even though low power nodes provide a greater fl…
Data offloading and task allocation for cloudlet-assisted ad hoc mobile clouds
2016
Nowadays, although the data processing capabilities of the modern mobile devices are developed in a fast speed, the resources are still limited in terms of processing capacity and battery lifetime. Some applications, in particular the computationally intensive ones, such as multimedia and gaming, often require more computational resources than a mobile device can afford. One way to address such a problem is that the mobile device can offload those tasks to the centralized cloud with data centers, the nearby cloudlet or ad hoc mobile cloud. In this paper, we propose a data offloading and task allocation scheme for a cloudlet-assisted ad hoc mobile cloud in which the master device (MD) who ha…
Incentive Mechanism for Resource Allocation in Wireless Virtualized Networks with Multiple Infrastructure Providers
2020
To accommodate the explosively growing demands for mobile traffic service, wireless network virtualization is proposed as the main evolution towards 5G. In this work, a novel contract theoretic incentive mechanism is proposed to study how to manage the resources and provide services to the users in the wireless virtualized networks. We consider that the infrastructure providers (InPs) own the physical networks and the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) has the service information of the users and needs to lease the physical radio resources for providing services. In particular, we utilize the contract theoretic approach to model the resource trading process between the MVNO and multiple…

Indoor localization using time difference of arrival with UWB signals and unsynchronized devices
2020
Abstract Indoor location using radio frequency (RF) signals has been traditionally focused mainly on RSSI and fingerprint techniques, because methods based on time of arrival (ToA) or time difference of arrival (TDoA) were not suitable for measuring short distances. However, the release of the IEEE 802.15.4a standard, the emergence of commercial ultra wide band (UWB) transceivers that are compliant to this norm and the integration of high frequency oscillators have permitted the design of more accurate indoor localization systems using the RF signal transmission time. In this paper, we propose an indoor localization system based on TDoA for UWB. The method implements an only one way transmi…
A study of LoRaWAN protocol performance for IoT applications in smart agriculture
2020
Abstract The use of Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming increasingly common in agribusiness to increase food production capacity for the expanding global population. Recently, low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs) have been used in the development of IoT applications that require low power consumption and low data transmission rates. LoRaWAN is considered the most suitable communication network for LPWANs for IoT applications in smart agriculture. In this paper, we present an in-depth study of the performance of the LoRaWAN communication network in the context of an IoT application for a pilot farm. We consider several scenarios and analyze simulation results by using Network Simulator 3. …
Resource allocation for clustered network MIMO OFDMA systems
2012
In this article, we address the resource allocation problem for the downlink of a large network multiple input multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system with 3-sector base stations. The system is statically divided into a number of disjoint clusters of sectors. A two-step resource allocation scheme is proposed involving the inter-cluster and the intra-cluster levels. As a first step or inter-cluster level, two cooperative frequency reuse approaches are designed to mitigate the inter-cluster interference. A user partition method is proposed to divide the users of each cluster into cluster-edge and cluster-center users. To balance the cell-edge and the cell-average per…
Energy-Efficient and Secure Resource Allocation for Multiple-Antenna NOMA with Wireless Power Transfer
2018
Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is considered as one of the promising techniques for providing high data rates in the fifth generation mobile communication. By applying successive interference cancellation schemes and superposition coding at the NOMA receiver, multiple users can be multiplexed on the same subchannel. In this paper, we investigate resource allocation algorithm design for an OFDM-based NOMA system empowered by wireless power transfer. In the considered system, users who need to transmit data can only be powered by the wireless power transfer. With the consideration of an existing eavesdropper, the objective is to obtain secure and energy efficient transmission among mul…
