Support Vector Machines Framework for Linear Signal Processing
2005
This paper presents a support vector machines (SVM) framework to deal with linear signal processing (LSP) problems. The approach relies on three basic steps for model building: (1) identifying the suitable base of the Hilbert signal space in the model, (2) using a robust cost function, and (3) minimizing a constrained, regularized functional by means of the method of Lagrange multipliers. Recently, autoregressive moving average (ARMA) system identification and non-parametric spectral analysis have been formulated under this framework. The generalized, yet simple, formulation of SVM LSP problems is particularized here for three different issues: parametric spectral estimation, stability of I…
High gain/bandwidth off-chip antenna loaded with metamaterial unit-cell impedance matching circuit for sub-terahertz near-field electronic systems
2022
An innovative of-chip antenna (OCA) is presented that exhibits high gain and efciency performance at the terahertz (THz) band and has a wide operational bandwidth. The proposed OCA is implemented on stacked silicon layers and consists of an open circuit meandering line. It is shown that by loading the antenna with an array of subwavelength circular dielectric slots and terminating it with a metamaterial unit cell, its impedance bandwidth is enhanced by a factor of two and its gain on average by about 4 dB. Unlike conventional antennas, where the energy is dissipated in a resistive load, the technique proposed here signifcantly reduces losses. The antenna is excited from underneath the anten…
Efficient Analysis of Arbitrarily Shaped Inductive Obstacles in Rectangular Waveguides Using a Surface Integral Equation Formulation
2007
In this paper we propose to use the Surface Integral Equation technique for the analysis of arbitrarily shaped Hplane obstacles in rectangular waveguides, which can contain both metallic and/or dielectric objects. The Green functions are formulated using both spectral and spatial images series, whose convergence behavior has been improved through several acceleration techniques. Proceeding in this way, the convergence of the series is not attached to the employment of any particular basis or test function, thus consequently increasing the flexibility of the implemented technique. In order to test the accuracy and numerical efficiency of the proposed method, results for practical microwave c…
Robust g-filter using support vector method
2004
This Letter presents a new approach to time series modelling using the support vector machines (SVM). Although the g filter can provide stability in several time series models, the SVM is proposed here to provide robustness in the estimation of the g filter coefficients. Examples in chaotic time series prediction and channel equalization show the advantages of the joint SVM g filter. Publicado
Self-assembled MgxZn1−xO quantum dots (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) on different substrates using spray pyrolysis methodology
2013
By using the spray pyrolysis methodology in its classical configuration we have grown self-assembled MgxZn1−xO quantum dots (size [similar]4–6 nm) in the overall range of compositions 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 on c-sapphire, Si (100) and quartz substrates. Composition of the quantum dots was determined by means of transmission electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray analysis (TEM-EDAX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Selected area electron diffraction reveals the growth of single phase hexagonal MgxZn1−xO quantum dots with composition 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.32 by using a nominal concentration of Mg in the range 0 to 45%. Onset of Mg concentration about 50% (nominal) forces the hexagonal lattice to undergo a p…

Learning non-linear time-scales with kernel -filters
2009
A family of kernel methods, based on the @c-filter structure, is presented for non-linear system identification and time series prediction. The kernel trick allows us to develop the natural non-linear extension of the (linear) support vector machine (SVM) @c-filter [G. Camps-Valls, M. Martinez-Ramon, J.L. Rojo-Alvarez, E. Soria-Olivas, Robust @c-filter using support vector machines, Neurocomput. J. 62(12) (2004) 493-499.], but this approach yields a rigid system model without non-linear cross relation between time-scales. Several functional analysis properties allow us to develop a full, principled family of kernel @c-filters. The improved performance in several application examples suggest…

Characterization of dual-polarization analogue radio over fiber fronthaul for LTE C-RAN architecture
2016
