Potential Cyclic Steps in a Gully System of the Gulf of Palermo (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea)

Multibeam bathymetric data revealed the occurrence of atrain of bedforms along a gully system in the Gulf of Palermo, Southern Tyrrhenian Sea. The observed gullies, located in the westernmost sector of the Gulf of Palermo, incise the outer shelf at a depth of 120 m and converge at the Zafferano Canyon, connecting to the Palermo Basin at a the depth of 1300 m. Bedforms develop along these gullies and along the thalweg of the canyon, displaying an average wavelength of 200 m, with maximum values of 340 m. Cell Culture Characterization of Prooxidative Chain-Transfer Agents as Novel Cytostatic Drugs

Prooxidative therapy is a well-established concept in infectiology and parasitology, in which prooxidative drugs like artemisinin and metronidazole play a pivotal clinical role. Theoretical considerations and earlier studies have indicated that prooxidative therapy might also represent a promising strategy in oncology. Here, we have investigated a novel class of prooxidative drugs, namely chain-transfer agents, as cytostatic agents in a series of human tumor cell lines in vitro. Design of enzyme-mediated controlled release systems based on silica mesoporous supports capped with ester-glycol groups

[EN] An ethylene glycol-capped hybrid material for the controlled release of molecules in the presence of esterase enzyme has been prepared. The final organic-inorganic hybrid solid S1 was synthesized by a two-step procedure. In the first step, the pores of an inorganic MCM-41 support (in the form of nanoparticles) were loaded with [Ru(bipy) 3]Cl 2 complex, and then, in the second step, the pore outlets were functionalized with ester glycol moieties that acted as molecular caps. Understanding the mechanism of the Povarov reaction. A DFT study

The molecular mechanism of the Povarov reaction in acetonitrile has been studied at the MPWB1K/6-311G** level of theory. This reaction follows a domino process that comprises two sequential reactions: (i) a Lewis acid catalysed aza-Diels–Alder (A-DA) reaction between a N-aryl imine and a nucleophilic ethylene yielding a formal [4 + 2] cycloadduct; (ii) a stepwise 1,3-hydrogen shift at this intermediate affording the final tetrahydroquinoline. At this computational level, the Lewis acid catalysed A-DA reaction presents a two-step mechanism as a consequence of the large stabilisation of the corresponding zwitterionic intermediate. Asymmetric Synthesis of Dihydropyranones with Three Contiguous Stereocenters by an NHC‐Catalyzed Kinetic Resolution

An oxidative NHC-catalyzed kinetic resolution (KR) of racemic mixtures is presented. The developed reaction furnishes tricyclic dihydropyranones with three contiguous stereocenters in excellent dia- and enantioselectivity, with good-to-moderate yields. Mechanistic studies indicate that the rate-determining step of the reaction is the formation of the Breslow intermediate, while the selectivity determining step occurs later in the mechanism. The presented methodology enables rapid synthesis of complex structures in a single step.

Two-step radiosynthesis of [18F]FE-β-CIT and [18F]PR04.MZ

The cocaine-derived dopamine reuptake inhibitors FE-β-CIT (8-(2-fluoroethyl)-3-(4-iodophenyl)-8-azabicyclo[3.2.1]octane-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester) (1) and PR04.MZ(8-(4-fluorobut-2-ynyl)-3-p-tolyl-8-azabicyclo[3.2.1]octane-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester) (2) were labelled with (18)F-fluorine using a two-step route. 2-[(18)F]Fluoroethyltosylate and 4-[(18)F]fluorobut-2-yne-1-yl tosylate were used as labelling reagents, respectively. Radiochemically pure (>98%) [(18)F]FE-β-CIT and [(18)F]PRD04.MZ (32-86 GBq/µmol) were obtained after a synthesis time of 100 min in about 25% non-decay-corrected overall yield.

The Gibbs model for the boundary between two phases consists of replacing the finite interfacial region, where the properties of the system change gradually, by a dividing surface which acts as a third phase of zero volume in which some magnitudes change abruptly.
