A backward sweep method for power flow solution in distribution networks
2010
Abstract A methodology for the analysis of radial or weakly meshed distribution systems supplying voltage dependent loads is here developed. The solution process is iterative and, at each step, loads are simulated by means of impedances. Therefore, at each iteration, it is necessary to solve a network made up only of impedances; for this kind of network, all the voltages and currents can be expressed as linear functions of a single unknown current (in radial systems) or of two unknown currents for each independent mesh (for meshed systems). The methodology has been called “backward” since the unique equation, in case of radial network, and the linear system of equations, in case of meshed n…

Huumeet ja kirjailijoiden luovuus
2017
Oliko eri huumeilla erilaisia vaikutuksia? Vai oliko huumeista pikemminkin haittaa luovalle työlle? Tarkastelen neljän hyvin erilaisen kirjailijan päihteidenkäyttöhistoriaa ja tuotantoa. Kirjailijat ovat William S. Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Hunter S. Thompson ja Stephen King. Heistä vain viimeksi mainittu on vielä elossa. Otan myös huomioon kirjaili…

Holocene hydrological changes in south-western mediterranean as recorded by lake-level fluctuations at lago Preola, a coastal lake in southern Sicily…
2011
This paper presents a high-resolution lake-level record for the Holocene at Lago Preola (Sicily, southern Italy) based on a specific sedimentological approach, with a chronology derived from AMS radiocarbon dates. It gives evidence of three major successive palaeohydrological periods, with (1) a pronounced dryness during the early Holocene until ca 10300 cal BP, (2) a highstand from ca 10300 to 4500 cal BP, and (3) a marked lowstand from 4500 cal BP to present. Large amplitude lake-level fluctuations characterise two transition phases at ca 10300e9000 and 6400e4500 cal BP. Period 2 was interrupted between 8300 and 7000 cal BP by a dry phase that was punctuated to ca 7300 cal BP by the depos…
Effects of the insect growth regulator cyromazine on the fecundity, fertility and offspring development of Mediterranean fruit fly,Ceratitis capitata…
1995
Addition of cyromazine to adult diet affected negatively the development of Ceratitis capitata Wied. (Dipt., Tephritidae) offspring. Five concentrations of cyromazine (0.00001 mg/ml, 0.01 mg/ml, 0.1 mg/ml, 1 mg/ml and 10 mg/ml) have been tested. A reduction of Mediterranean fruit fly populations has been found mainly due to the effects of fertility and larval development. At these concentrations, cyromazine does not affect Ceratitis capitata fecundity.
Larval distributions of the ectoparasitoid waspEurytoma robustarelative to the host tephritid gall flyUrophora cardui
2003
Parasitism may explain the patchy distributions of host populations. The present paper is a study of larval distributions of the parasitoid Eurytoma robusta in galls of the tephritid gall fly Urophora cardui . It focuses on E. robusta ’s choice of U. cardui gall and whether this changes relative to the rate of parasitism. Oviposition patterns were inferred by direct counts of larvae in galls and genetically, for both species, using indirect relatedness estimates between gall-members. Furthermore, rates of parasitism in four populations were monitored for 4 years. The modal distribution of E. robusta larvae per gall was one and independent of the level of parasitism. The mean number of E. ro…
Yellow (577 nm) micropulse laser versus half-dose verteporfin photodynamic therapy in eyes with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy: results of …
2018
PurposeTo compare the functional and anatomical outcomes of eyes with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy treated with yellow micropulse (MP) laser versus half-dose verteporfin photodynamic therapy (PDT).MethodsThis is a multicentre, retrospective comparative study of 92 eyes treated with yellow MP laser (duty cycle of 5%, zero spacing between spots, spot size varied from 100 to 200 µm, power varied from 320 to 660 mW, and the pulse burst duration was 200 ms) and 67 eyes treated with PDT (half-dose verteporfin (3 mg/m2) infused over 10 min), followed by laser activation for 83 s. Spot sizes varied from 400 to 2000 µm.ResultsIn the MP group, at 12 months of follow-up, the mean best corr…
Vegetation and climate in the eastern Iberian Peninsula during the pre-evaporitic Messinian (late Miocene). Palynological data from the Upper Turolia…
2015
International audience; The present paper reports a complete palynological study of the Upper Turolian sediments outcropping at the Venta del Moro site (eastern Iberian Peninsula). The pollen assemblages observed mainly reflect the local and regional vegetation, which must have formed part of a wetland ecosystem within a general setting of open steppe, as indicated by the great abundance and diversity of herbaceous pollen. This reflects the persistence of open vegetation in the Iberian Peninsula after the Middle Miocene when it became extensive. We here report the most recent record of Disanthus for the Iberian Peninsula. This shrub played an important role in an unusual, edaphically-mediat…
CO Oxidation on Cationic Gold Clusters: A Theoretical Study
2008
Aiming at understanding the elementary steps governing the oxidation of CO catalyzed by dispersed or supported gold nanoclusters, the reactivity of molecular species, such as O2 and CO, on neutral and positively charged Au13 clusters have been studied using a DFT approach. Two CO oxidation mechanisms have been simulated, involving respectively the adsorption of CO and O2 on adjacent catalytic sites (two-sites mechanism) and the competitive interaction of the reactants on the same site (single-site mechanism). It is demonstrated that in the former scheme a definite interaction of CO and O2 with both the charged and neutral cluster is effective, but that a chemical reaction between the adsorb…
