Periodic orbits of single neuron models with internal decay rate 0 < β ≤ 1

In this paper we consider a discrete dynamical system x n+1=βx n – g(x n ), n=0,1,..., arising as a discrete-time network of a single neuron, where 0 &lt; β ≤ 1 is an internal decay rate, g is a signal function. A great deal of work has been done when the signal function is a sigmoid function. However, a signal function of McCulloch-Pitts nonlinearity described with a piecewise constant function is also useful in the modelling of neural networks. We investigate a more complicated step signal function (function that is similar to the sigmoid function) and we will prove some results about the periodicity of solutions of the considered difference equation. Though it is common in network control systems that the sensor and control signals are transmitted via a common communication network, no result is available in investigating the stabilization problem for uncertain nonlinear systems with both input and state quantization. The issue is solved in this paper, by presenting an adaptive backstepping based control algorithm for the systems with sector bounded input and state quantizers. Gamma rays induced synthesis of graphene oxide/gold nanoparticle composites: structural and photothermal study

Gamma irradiation provides an alternative pathway to conventional gold nanoparticle synthesis because it is simple, fast, and economical. Here, we employed gamma irradiation at low doses (1–20 kGy) to obtain gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) anchored onto graphene oxide (GO) sheets. GO was selected as a suitable platform for the nucleation and growth of Au NPs because of its large surface area and good dispersibility in water due to the presence of polar oxygen-containing functional groups in its structure. First-principles simulations of the electronic density of states for superionic Ag2CdI4 crystals

Abstract Energy band dispersion calculations have been performed for Ag 2 CdI 4 superionic within a framework of local density approximation (Perdew–Zunger parameterization) exploiting the first-principles CASTEP computer code. The ab-initio electronic structure simulations were performed for both ( I 4 and I 42 m ) types of e -Ag 2 CdI 4 crystalline structures. Principal optical functions as well as the density of electronic states in the spectral range of inter-band optical transitions (2.5 eV–20 eV) were determined. Theoretically calculated absorption coefficients derived from the obtained band structure are compared with appropriate experimental data.

Analysis of small-angle scattering patterns from a commercial Al-Li alloy by means of a model incorporating a repulsive step potential

Abstract Small-angle X-ray scattering measurements are reported for a commercial Al-8·49%Li-51% Cu (atomic composition) alloy solution treated at 520°C and thermally aged for several times at several temperatures. Data have been analysed by means of a model of ellipsoidal precipitate particles previously proposed by some of us and by a modification of this model where, in the interparticle interference term, allowance is made for interactions between the precipitate particles at longer range than previously. The present paper desribes photoinhibition within a two step process consisting of an oxygen radical induced inactivation at the QB-site followed by damage to reaction centre II through the degradation of the D1-protein.

A combined experimental and theoretical study of the unimolecular elimination kinetics of 2-alkoxypropionic acids in the gas phase

Abstract The reaction mechanism associated with the decomposition of three 2-alkoxypropionic acids (2-methoxy-, 2-ethoxy- and 2-isopropoxypropionic acid) in gas phase to form acetaldehyde, carbon monoxide, and the corresponding alcohol has been analyzed by a combination of experimental and theoretical studies. The kinetics of these systems were determined in a static system over the temperature and pressure range of 301.2–370.7°C and 61–190 Torr, respectively, in seasoned vessel, with the free-radical inhibitor cyclohexene. Trapping AsPh3 via reaction with NiS/γ-Al2O3 in the presence of H2: Reaction mechanism and kinetics

International audience; Removal of As from petroleum feedstocks is an important process which can be realized using As trapping mass containing supported nickel sulfide. In order to understand the mechanism of the trapping we studied the reaction of AsPh3 with NiS/γ-Al2O3 in the presence of H2 in a batch reactor in toluene solution at 230 °C. This reaction results in formation of NiAs, benzene and H2S. Also, the intermediate species, thiophenol and diphenylsulfide, were observed. Despite formation of NiAs layer in the course of reaction, the rate of AsPh3 decomposition is not affected by the solid state diffusion up to ∼ 50 % of nickel conversion. In contrast to other electron deficient enophiles or dienophiles which react with 1,4-cyclohexadiene (1,4-CHD) under aromatization, 1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-diones react in a defined reaction sequence. In a first step the 1,4-cyclohexadiene reacts via an ene-reaction. The intermediately formed substituted 1,3-cyclohexadiene immediately reacts in a Diels-Alder reaction. The regiochemistry of the Diels-Alder reaction is controlled by the solvent polarity. This reaction sequence can be used to synthesize polymers.
