Acid versus base peptization of mesoporous nanocrystalline TiO2 films: functional studies in dye sensitized solar cells
2005
We report an analysis of the influence of acid/base conditions employed in the synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles upon the performance of dye sensitised photoelectrochemical solar cells fabricated from these particles. The functional properties of the TiO2 nanoparticles in these devices are investigated by potential step chronoamperometry, transient laser spectroscopy, and photovoltaic device characterisation. We find that base peptization conditions employed in the sol–gel fabrication of the TiO2 nanoparticles result in a reduction in film electron density under negative applied bias, correlated with slower interfacial recombination losses and a higher device open circuit voltage.

Wing morphometrics as a possible tool for the diagnosis of the Ceratitis fasciventris, C. anonae, C. rosa complex (Diptera, Tephritidae)
2015
Abstract Previous attempts to resolve the Ceratitis FAR complex (Ceratitis fasciventris, Ceratitis anonae, Ceratitis rosa, Diptera, Tephritidae) showed contrasting results and revealed the occurrence of five microsatellite genotypic clusters (A, F1, F2, R1, R2). In this paper we explore the potential of wing morphometrics for the diagnosis of FAR morphospecies and genotypic clusters. We considered a set of 227 specimens previously morphologically identified and genotyped at 16 microsatellite loci. Seventeen wing landmarks and 6 wing band areas were used for morphometric analyses. Permutational multivariate analysis of variance detected significant differences both across morphospecies and g…
Evaluating the quality of the Mexican fruit-fly, Anastrepha ludens, as host for the parasitoid Melittobia digitata
2013
We investigated the presence of Melittobia digitata (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) and its associations with its natural hosts in Veracruz, Mexico. The parasitoid was confirmed to be present and found to attack prepupae of Trypoxylon and Sceliphron (Hymenoptera: Crabronidae and Sphecidae, respectively) mud daubers as well as pupae of the Mexican fruit fly Anastrepha ludens (Diptera: Tephritidae). Since A. ludens is a very important pest of citrus and mango in Mexico and Central America, we evaluated, in laboratory experiments, the quality of A. ludens as host of M. digitata comparing the development of the parasitoid in another unrelated fly species (Sarcophaga [Neobellieria] bullata) (Diptera: …
Some efficient algorithms for the solution of a single nonlinear equation
1981
High order methods for the numerical solution of nonlinear scalar equations are proposed which are more efficient than known procedures, and a unified approach to various methods suggested in literature is given.
Stepping molecular motor amid Lévy white noise
2015
We consider a model of a stepping molecular motor consisting of two connected heads. Directional motion of the stepper takes place along a one-dimensional track. Each head is subject to a periodic potential without spatial reflection symmetry. When the potential for one head is switched on, it is switched off for the other head. Additionally, the system is subject to the influence of symmetric, white Lévy noise that mimics the action of external random forcing. The stepper exhibits motion with a preferred direction which is examined by analyzing the median of the displacement of a midpoint between the positions of the two heads. We study the modified dynamics of the stepper by numerical sim…
Simulation of BSDEs with jumps by Wiener Chaos Expansion
2016
International audience; We present an algorithm to solve BSDEs with jumps based on Wiener Chaos Expansion and Picard's iterations. This paper extends the results given in Briand-Labart (2014) to the case of BSDEs with jumps. We get a forward scheme where the conditional expectations are easily computed thanks to chaos decomposition formulas. Concerning the error, we derive explicit bounds with respect to the number of chaos, the discretization time step and the number of Monte Carlo simulations. We also present numerical experiments. We obtain very encouraging results in terms of speed and accuracy.

Stephanotis floribunda infetta da TSWV in Liguria.
2010
Deconstructing Stereotypes Through Reading Children’s Literature as Intergenerational Play: The Case of the Stepmother
2021
One of the key roles within stepfamilies, the role of stepmother has been and still is stigmatized with an aura of wickedness, produced by folk and fairy tales as well as by the media. As a review of theoretical frameworks of children’s literature indicates, there is a shortage of methodological proposals for handling such controversial topics in literary education. Thus, the objective of this chapter is to present and test a methodology for analyzing the capacity of children’s literature to shape social understanding of such intergenerational topics. This study was based on the exploration of the picture book by Gonzalez and Alberdi entitled La novia de papa tambien me quiere (My Dad’s Gir…
