INFORMACIÓN Y EXPOSICIÓN INDIRECTA PARA REDUCIR ESTEREOTIPOS HACIA EL ENVEJECIMIENTO

2016

Abstract.Purpose: The Image that society has about older people has been built on a base of stereotypes, far away from reality. This social image will have a determinant influence on attitudes and behaviors from all those people related with them, including health care professionals. It should be mandatory to eradicate negative stereotypes against aging during university formation, and in this practice get sensitive professionals who will attend people in their final state of life. Method: the treatment “Information plus indirect experience” was set throw the viewing of the short film “Como un Rolling” (Castilla, 2013). This film exposes the concept of active aging, and had the purpose to b…

Arthroscopic Reinsertion of Acute Injuries of the Scapholunate Ligament Technique and Results

2020

Abstract Objective To describe a technique for treating acute injuries of the scapholunate ligament (SLL) by performing an arthroscopic reinsertion of the SLL and dorsal capsulodesis and to present the results obtained. Methods The study deals with an analytical, prospective clinical study that included 19 consecutive patients with acute injury of the SLL. The range of joint motion, grip strength, pain according to the visual analog scale, functional outcomes according to the Mayo Wrist Score (MWS), and the QuickDASH Score were studied preoperatively and 6 and 12 months postoperatively. The complications and necessary reinterventions were recorded. Results Nineteen patients with acute injur…

Grapes: a method and a SAS program for graphical representations of assessor performances

1994

GRAPES computes individual and global analyses of variance for sensory profiling data, consisting of several sessions in which all the panelists gave scores to all the products for a number of attributes. The fitted model takes into account the session effect. GRAPES summarizes the results by means of graphical assessor scatterplots which allow to check and to compare panelist performances, such as the way of using scale, the reliability, the discrimination power and the agreement with the panel. In addition, GRAPES detects the outliers for each of these criterion. The usefulness of GRAPES for the panel leader will be demonstrated using texture and flavor profiling of 4 restructured steaks …

Latex allergy: the sum quantity of four major allergens shows the allergenic potential of medical gloves

2007

Background:  Assessment of allergenic potential of medical devices made of natural rubber latex (NRL) requires the measurement of concentrations of specific allergenic proteins or polypeptides eluting from rubber. Methods:  Four NRL allergens (Hev b 1, 3, 5, and 6.02) were quantified in all medical glove brands marketed in Finland in 1999, 2001, and 2003 (n = 208) by a capture enzyme immunoassay. The results were compared with those obtained from previous nationwide market surveys, using a skin prick test-validated human IgE-based ELISA-inhibition method. Results:  A high overall correlation (r = 0.87, 95% CI 0.83–0.90) emerged between the sum values of the four allergens(μg/g glove) and Ig…

The term “amyloid” refers to proteinaceous deposits of peptides that might be generated from larger precursor proteins e.g., by proteolysis. Common to these peptides is a stable cross-β dominated secondary structure which allows self-assembly, leading to insoluble oligomers and lastly to fibrils. These highly ordered protein aggregates have been, for a long time, mainly associated with human neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (Amyloid-β peptides). However, they also exert physiological functions such as in release of deposited hormones in human beings. In the light of the rediscovery of our microbial commensals as important companions in health and disease, the fact that…

Positron Emission Tomography Imaging of Neurotensin Receptor-Positive Tumors with 68 Ga-Labeled Antagonists: The Chelate Makes the Difference Again

2021

Neurotensin receptor 1 (NTS1) is involved in the development and progression of numerous cancers, which makes it an interesting target for the development of diagnostic and therapeutic agents. A small molecule NTS1 antagonist, named [177Lu]Lu-IPN01087, is currently evaluated in phase I/II clinical trials for the targeted therapy of neurotensin receptor-positive cancers. In this study, we synthesized seven compounds based on the structure of NTS1 antagonists, bearing different chelating agents, and radiolabeled them with gallium-68 for PET imaging. These compounds were evaluated in vitro and in vivo in mice bearing a HT-29 xenograft. The compound [68Ga]Ga-bisNODAGA-16 showed a promising biod…

Mechanistic understanding of underperforming enteric coated products: Opportunities to add clinical relevance to the dissolution test.

2020

Over the last 70 years several cases of in vivo failure of enteric coated (EC) formulations have been reported. The observed failures seem to be due to the slower than expected in vivo performance of EC products. Upon reaching the intestinal lumen, the dosage form is exposed to a bicarbonate buffered environment at much lower interfacial buffering capacity compared to those applied in compendial phosphate buffers. Hence, there is an urgent need to understand the behavior of EC products in bicarbonate buffer (BCB) and to revaluate the current dissolution methods used for such products. The current pilot study mechanistically investigated the performance of five EC products available in the C…

Eating chocolate, smelling perfume or watching video advertisement: Does it make any difference on emotional states measured at home using facial exp…

2019

Type d'article : méthodologie, recherche et revue.; International audience; The recording of facial expressions allows for implicit measurement of emotional states over time. The present study investigated whether these recordings can be acquired, using computer webcams, when testing products at home. Three types of product spaces (chocolates, perfumes and video advertisements) were evaluated at home by 44 subjects using a facial expression measurement protocol. Each product space was composed of three products. The first objective examined the feasibility of such a home-based protocol. The second objective investigated whether several products in the same product space could be characteriz…
