The reaction of [Ni(COD) 2 ] with [Cp* 2 NbTe 2 H] (1; Cp * = η-C 5 Me 5 ) in the presence of Ph 2 PCH 2 PPh 2 (dppm) in boiling toluene gives black-violet [(Cp * 2 Nb) 2 NiTe 4 ] (3). If [Cp' 2 NbTe 2 H] (2; Cp' = tBuC 5 H 4 ) is used under similar conditions dark-brown [(Cp'Nb)2Ni5Te7(dppm)2] (4) is formed. The structures of 3 and 4 have been determined crystallographically. Complex 3 contains a severely distorted NiTe 4 tetrahedron to which two niobocene groups are coordinated. Density functional analysis of the electronic structure of the NiTe 4 building block shows that it is best described as an [Ni(η 2 -Te 2 ) 2 ] 2- fragment. Structural, photophysical and magnetic properties of transition metal complexes based on the dipicolylamino-chloro-1,2,4,5-tetrazine ligand

International audience; The ligand 3-chloro-6-dipicolylamino-1,2,4,5-tetrazine (Cl-TTZ-dipica) 1, prepared by the direct reaction between 3,6-dichloro-1,2,4,5-tetrazine and di(2-picolyl)-amine, afforded a series of four neutral transition metal complexes formulated as [Cl-TTZ-dipica-MCl2]2, with M = Zn(II), Cd(II), Mn(II) and Co(II), when reacted with the corresponding metal chlorides. Self-assembly of M4L4tetrahedral cages incorporating pendant PS and PSe functionalised ligands

Herein, the synthesis of metal–organic tetrahedral cages featuring flexible thio- and selenophosphate-based ligands is described. The cages were prepared by sub-component self-assembly of AP(OC6H4NH2-4)3 (A = S, Se) or SP(SC6H4NH2-4)3, 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde, and either Fe[BF4]2 or Co[BF4]2. Preliminary host–guest studies into the ability of the pendant PS and PSe groups to interact with suitable substrates will be discussed.

A Fully Conjugated TTF-π-TCAQ System: Synthesis, Structure, and Electronic Properties

The synthesis of the first fully conjugated tetrathiafulvalene-tetracyano-p-quinodimethane ((TTF)-TCNQ)-type system has been carried out by means of a Julia-Kocienski olefination reaction. In particular, a tetracyanoanthraquinodimethane (TCAQ) formyl derivative and two new sulfonylmethyl-exTTFs (exTTF = 2-[9-(1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene)anthracen-10(9H)-ylidene]-1,3-dithiole)--prepared as new building blocks--were linked. A variety of experimental conditions reveal that the use of sodium hexamethyldisilazane (NaHMDS) as base in THF afforded the E olefins with excellent stereoselectivity. Single‐component conductors based on neutral organic radicals have received a lot of attention due to the possibility that the unpaired electron can serve as a charge carrier without the need of a previous doping process. Although most of these systems are based on delocalized planar radicals, we present here a nonplanar and spin localized radical based on a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) moiety, linked to a perchlorotriphenylmethyl (PTM) radical by a conjugated bridge, which exhibits a semiconducting behavior upon application of high pressure. Aza and cyanobridged tripodal dinuclear copper(II) complexes: Electrochemical studies and structural evidence for an original azacyanocarbanion

International audience; The reactivity of the mononuclear [Cu(TMPA)(L)] n+ complex (TMPA: tris(2-methylpyridine) amine, L: CH3CN, H2O) towards two different bridging species (tetracyanoethylene, 4,40-bipyridine) was investigated. The dinuclear complex [(mu-4,40-bipy)Cu-II(TMPA)(2)](CF3SO3)(4) (1) was synthesised and analysed by Xray diffraction (XRD). Magnetic studies revealed that this derivative displays very weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the two metal centres (2J = -0.69 cm(-1)). Two-Photon Absorption Properties and Structures of BODIPY and Its Dyad, Triad and Tetrad.

A series consisting of a dyad, a triad and a tetrad containing either two, three and four BODIPY units, respectively, has been synthesized and fully characterized and compared to two mono-BODIPY analogs (used as references). The one- and two-photon photophysical properties have been measured and the X-ray structures of four of the BODIPY derivatives have been determined. In the 700-900 nm range, the two-photon absorption (TPA) cross sections range from 30 GM to 160 GM for these compounds.

Photolysis of Tertiary Amines in the Presence of CO2: The Paths to Formic Acid, α-Amino Acids, and 1,2-Diamines

The photolysis of triethylamine (1a) in the presence of carbon dioxide leads to the hydrogenation of CO2, the α-C-C coupling of triethylamine (1a), and the CO2-insertion into the α-C-H σ-bond of amine 1a. This reaction is proposed to proceed through the radical ion pair [R3N·+·CO2·-] generated by the photoionization of amine 1a and the electron capture by CO2. The presence of lithium tetrafluoroborate in the reaction medium promotes the efficient and stereoselective α-C-C coupling of 1a by enhancing the production of α-dialkylamino radicals and the isomerization of N,N,N',N'-tetraethylbutane-2,3-diamine (4a).
