Model-independent measurement of the W-boson helicity in top-quark decays at D0.
2008
Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T20:37:47Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2008-02-14 Science and Technology Facilities Council We present the first model-independent measurement of the helicity of W bosons produced in top quark decays, based on a 1fb-1 sample of candidate tt̄ events in the dilepton and lepton plus jets channels collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron pp̄ Collider. We reconstruct the angle θ* between the momenta of the down-type fermion and the top quark in the W boson rest frame for each top quark decay. A fit of the resulting cos θ* distribution finds that the fraction of longitudinal W bosons f0=0.425±0.166(stat)±0.102(syst) and the f…
Precision Measurement of the Top Quark Mass in <span class="aps-inline-formula"><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="in…
2014
We measure the mass of the top quark in lepton$+$jets final states using the full sample of $$p\bar{p}$$ collision data collected by the D0 experiment in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at $$\sqrt s=1.96 $$TeV, corresponding to $$9.7 {\rm fb}^{-1}$$ of integrated luminosity. We use a matrix element technique that calculates the probabilities for each event to result from $$t\bar t$$ production or background. The overall jet energy scale is constrained in situ by the mass of the $W$ boson. We measure $$m_t=174.98\pm0.76$$ GeV. In conclusion, this constitutes the most precise single measurement of the top-quark mass.
Constraints on four-fermion interactions from the tt¯ charge asymmetry at hadron colliders
2016
The charge asymmetry in top quark production at hadron colliders is sensitive to beyond-the-Standard-Model four-fermion interactions. In this study we compare the sensitivity of $$t\bar{t}$$ cross-section and charge asymmetry measurements to effective operators describing four-fermion interactions and study the limits on the validity of this approach. A fit to a combination of Tevatron and LHC measurements yields stringent limits on the linear combinations $$C_1$$ and $$C_2$$ of the four-fermion effective operators.
Measurement of spin correlation in ttbar production using a matrix element approach
2011
correlation, assuming that the spin of the top quark is either correlated with the spin of the anti-top quark as predicted by the standard model or is uncorrelated. For the first time we use a matrix-element-based approach to study ttbar spin correlation. We use {ttbar -> W+bW-bbar ->l+nubl-nub} final states produced in ppbar collisions at a center of mass energy sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV, where l denotes an electron or a muon. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1 and were collected with the dzero detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The result agrees with the standard model prediction. We exclude the hypothesis that the spins of the ttbar are uncorrelated at the …
A method for detection of muon induced electromagnetic showers with the ANTARES detector
2012
The primary aim of ANTARES is neutrino astronomy with upward going muons created in charged current muon neutrino interactions in the detector and its surroundings. Downward going muons are background for neutrino searches. These muons are the decay products of cosmic-ray collisions in the Earths atmosphere far above the detector. This paper presents a method to identify and count electromagnetic showers induced along atmospheric muon tracks with the ANTARES detector. The method is applied to both cosmic muon data and simulations and its applicability to the reconstruction of muon event energies is demonstrated. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Innovative technologies for the recovery of phytochemicals from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves: A review.
2018
Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni has gained increased industrial and scientific interests in the last 20 years, representing a suitable nutritional alternative to sucrose and artificial sweeteners. Moreover, this plant contains polyphenols, chlorophylls, and carotenoids that may be extracted for production of nutraceuticals and functional foods. Because of nutritional and technological advantages over sucrose, innovative approaches for the extraction of highly valued compounds from Stevia leaves have been developed and optimized. In contrast to conventional alternatives, innovative extraction methods allow higher yields in a shorter time, less usage of organic solvents, and reduced energy consumpt…
Contamination of Surface Water and River Sediments by Antibiotic and Antiretroviral Drug Cocktails in Low and Middle-Income Countries: Occurrence, Ri…
2020
Presence of antimicrobial cocktails in the hydrological cycles is of interest because of their potential to mediate antimicrobial resistance within the natural environment. In this study, we determined the concentrations of selected antibiotics and antiretroviral drugs (ARVDs) in wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluent, effluent suspended particulate matter (SPM), surface waters and river sediments in Kenya in order to determine the extent of pollution within the sampled environment. Target analysis for the most common antibiotics and ARVDs was done. Sulfamethoxazole (SMX), ciprofloxacin (CIP), trimethoprim (TMP), norfloxacin (NOR), zidovidine (ZDV), lamivudine (3TC) and nevirapine (NVP)…
Penetrating aortic ulcer post migration of thoracic aortic endoprosthesis: Case report
2021
Introduction Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is the first treatment option for many thoracic aortic pathologies. Especially after aortic dissections, it is possible to have progression during follow-up with appearance of new lesions on arterial wall. Herein, we report a case of Penetrating Aortic Ulcer (PAU) post release of Thoracic endoprosthesis. Presentation of case A 67-years-old male with hypertension and diabetes mellitus was followed at our hospital after an emergency procedure for Type B aortic dissection (TBAD) complicated by symptomatic large infrarenal AAA and treated with a proximal TEVAR plus chimney for left subclavian artery and PETTICOAT with EVAR for abdominal a…
Mutagenesis scanning uncovers evolutionary constraints on tobacco etch Potyvirus membrane-associated 6K2 protein
2019
RNA virus high mutation rate is a double-edged sword. At the one side, most mutations jeopardize proteins functions; at the other side, mutations are needed to fuel adaptation. The relevant question then is the ratio between beneficial and deleterious mutations. To evaluate this ratio, we created a mutant library of the 6K2 gene of tobacco etch potyvirus that contains every possible single-nucleotide substitution. 6K2 protein anchors the virus replication complex to the network of endoplasmic reticulum membranes. The library was inoculated into the natural host Nicotiana tabacum, allowing competition among all these mutants and selection of those that are potentially viable. We identified 1…
