Kansallisarkiston pääjohtaja Jussi Nuorteva eläkkeelle

2022

Predicting COVID-19 booster vaccine intentions.

2022

Achieving broad immunity through vaccination is a cornerstone strategy for long-term management of COVID-19 infections, particularly the prevention of serious cases and hospitalizations. Evidence that vaccine-induced immunity wanes over time points to the need for COVID-19 booster vaccines, and maximum compliance is required to maintain population-level immunity. Little is known of the correlates of intentions to receive booster vaccines among previously vaccinated individuals. The present study applied an integrated model to examine effects of beliefs from multiple social cognition theories alongside sets of generalized, stable beliefs on individuals' booster vaccine intentions. US residen…

Pulsed Electric Field Processing Optimization of Ascorbic Acid in a Mango and Papaya Beverage Sweetened with Stevia Rebaudiana

2016

During the processing of liquid foods, ascorbic acid may be altered, thus reducing beneficial health effects. For this reason, the degradation kinetics of ascorbic acid were determined in a fruit juice mixture (papaya and mango) sweetened with Stevia rebaudiana (SR) infusion after treatment by pulsed electric field (PEF) processing. The variable ranges were 20-40 kV/cm (electric field strength, E) during 100-360 μs (time treatment, t). The degradation equation was AA (mg/100 mL) = 26.842 - 0.101·E - 0.003·t- 10.371·%Stevia + 2.865·%Stevia2, demonstrating the use of PEF as an alternative to pasteurization treatments. However, results show the need to optimize treatment conditions whenever th…

New bioactive alkaloids from the marine sponge Stylissa sp.

2012

Abstract Chemical investigation of the Indonesian marine sponge Stylissa species, which was collected at 2008 from Derawan Islands, Berau, NE Kalimantan, Indonesia offered four new brominated alkaloids, including 12-N-methyl stevensine (1), 12-N-methyl-2-debromostevensine (2), 3-debromolatonduine B methyl ester (3), 3-debromolatonduine A (4) together with eight known alkaloids identified as Z-hymenialdisine, Z-debromohymenialdisine, Stevensine, 2-debromostevensine, 3-bromoaldizine, 3,4-dibromopyrrole-2-carbamide, latonduine A, and latonduine B methyl ester (5–12), respectively. The structures of all isolated compounds were unambiguously elucidated based on extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectrosco…

BORDERS AND BORDER CROSSING BETWEEN ART WORLDS. Successful attempts and epic failures to enter new domains in recent British art

2016

The paper attempts to answer, whether it is possible for successful artists in one specific sector to access the domain of another artistic field at their free will. In doing so, this contribution analyses the possible existence of borders and gatekeepers between different art worlds. The aim is not just finding or defining boundaries between art fields, but rather understanding, if boundaries can be pierced through, as well as the conditions that might hinder acceptance. Moving from an art theoretical and philosophical perspective, the present paper will discuss the thesis of Pierre Bourdieu, Howard Becker, Berys Gaut and Joseph Margolis on boundary conditions in the arts. Subsequently the…

Microthermometry of fluid inclusions in calcite from Fuerteventura carbonatites: composition and formation conditions

2022

The petrographic analysis in calcite minerals in carbonatitic dykes from Fuerteventura Basal Complex (Ajuy, Punta de la Nao) shows the presence of isolated primary fluid inclusions, corroborating their magmatic origin instead of a late-stage origin. Micro-thermometric studies in calcite show a restricted range of apparent eutectic temperature (Te*= -21.7 – -21.0 °C) and final ice melting temperatures (Tim= -3.2 – -2.1. °C). Homogenization temperatures and pressures are in the range of 140-210 °C and 4-16 bars respectively. Our results suggest the binary NaCl-H2O system as a characterizing chemical system in studied fluid inclusions, with the presence of low salinity fluids (≈ 5 wt. % NaCleq…

RAVITA Technology : new innovation for combined phosphorus and nitrogen recovery

2018

Abstract Present phosphorus (P) recovery technologies mainly contain P recovery from sludge liquor or ash. These types of technologies are suitable for large wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) with enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR), digestion and/or incineration. In Finland and other Nordic countries, strict P discharge limits require chemical precipitation, thus EBPR alone is not sufficient. Ammonium recovery from wastewater, on the other hand, is not so often discussed. However, recovery from WWTP reject waters would decrease the energy demand of ammonium synthesis by Haber-Bosh technology and the energy demand of the WWTP's biological process. High pressure processing of fruit juice mixture sweetened with Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni: Optimal retention of physical and nutritional quality

2013

Abstract The impact of high pressure processing (HPP) technology on physicochemical properties (color, browning index, turbidity index), bioactive compounds (ascorbic acid, total phenolic compounds, total anthocyanins, total carotenoids) and antioxidant capacity of a fruit juice mixture (papaya (32.5%, v/v), mango (10%, v/v) and orange (7.5%, v/v)) sweetened with Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni at different percentages was studied. The experimental design comprised a response surface methodology according to a central composite face-centered design. The variable ranges were 300–500 MPa (pressure), 5–15 min (time), 0–2.5% Stevia percentage. This design was used to determine the optimal high pressu…
