TFPI antigen and activity levels in patients with asymptomatic atherosclerosis and target organ acute and chronic complications

2005

AIM: In patients with atherosclerosis there is an activation of the tissue factor mediated coagulation cascade. The aim of our study was to ascertain if there is a relationship between increased tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) antigen and activity plasma levels and atherosclerosis. METHODS: Design: case-control study. Setting: Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases, University of Palermo and Laboratory of Genetics and Molecular Biology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA. Patients: 63 consecutive patients with asymptomatic atherosclerosis or with its acute or chronic complications, and 20 healthy volunteers. Measurements: TFPI antigen was detected by an immunoenzima…

Humectabilidad In-Vivo E In-Vitro En Diferentes Materiales De Lentes De Contacto Y Calidad De La Película Lagrimal

2023

In silico pace-mapping: prediction of left vs. right outflow tract origin in idiopathic ventricular arrhythmias with patient-specific electrophysiolo…

2019

Abstract Aims A pre-operative non-invasive identification of the site of origin (SOO) of outflow tract ventricular arrhythmias (OTVAs) is important to properly plan radiofrequency ablation procedures. Although some algorithms based on electrocardiograms (ECGs) have been developed to predict left vs. right ventricular origins, their accuracy is still limited, especially in complex anatomies. The aim of this work is to use patient-specific electrophysiological simulations of the heart to predict the SOO in OTVA patients. Methods and results An in silico pace-mapping procedure was designed and used on 11 heart geometries, generating for each case simulated ECGs from 12 clinically plausible SOO…

Comparison of lower limb segments kinematics in taekwondo kick. an approach to the proximal to distal motion

2015

Abstract In taekwondo, there is a lack of consensus about how the kick sequence occurs. The aim of this study was to analyse the peak velocity (resultant and value in each plane) of lower limb segments (thigh, shank and foot), and the time to reach this peak velocity in the kicking lower limb during the execution of the roundhouse kick technique. Ten experienced taekwondo athletes (five males and five females; mean age of 25.3 ±5.1 years; mean experience of 12.9 ±5.3 years) participated voluntarily in this study performing consecutive kicking trials to a target located at their sternum height. Measurements for the kinematic analysis were performed using two 3D force plates and an eight came…

MEDIA SKILLS AND PROFESSIONAL AWARENESS IN TEACHER TRAINING

2016

The present paper documents the use of an e-portfolio to promote a process of reflection on the digital skills of in-service teachers. Teachers have been involved for 75 hours in experiencing a training methodology for the promotion of media skills necessary to design paths of media education. The use of the e-portfolio as a means of course assessment was evaluated by the participating group of 91 trainee teachers. The methods of data collection took the form of an analysis carried out thanks to the use of a check list with 22 indicators deduced from the research, of which the frequency was observed. The analysis of the e-portfolios revealed a high trainee teachers’ ability to recognize the…

3D high definition video coding on a GPU-based heterogeneous system

2013

H.264/MVC is a standard for supporting the sensation of 3D, based on coding from 2 (stereo) to N views. H.264/MVC adopts many coding options inherited from single view H.264/AVC, and thus its complexity is even higher, mainly because the number of processing views is higher. In this manuscript, we aim at an efficient parallelization of the most computationally intensive video encoding module for stereo sequences. In particular, inter prediction and its collaborative execution on a heterogeneous platform. The proposal is based on an efficient dynamic load balancing algorithm and on breaking encoding dependencies. Experimental results demonstrate the proposed algorithm's ability to reduce the…

Dentinal microcracks after root canal instrumentation using instruments manufactured with different NiTi alloys and the SAF system: A systematic revi…

2021

Aim: The aim of this systematic analysis was to assess the prevalence of dentinal microcracks at various levels (3, 6, and 9 mm from the apex) after using instruments made with conventional, R-Phase, and M-Wire NiTi alloys and the SAF system. Materials and Methods: Electronic searches were conducted in the databases Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science. To arrange search methods, “MeSH” terms and/or keywords typically associated with the subject were paired with the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR.” Additional searches were conducted on the websites of four separate endodontic journals. After reading the titles and excluding duplicates, 1000 of the 1343 documents ori…

Local Expected Shortfall-Hedging

2001

This paper proposes a self-financing trading strategy that minimizes the expected shortfall locally when hedging a European contingent claim. A positive shortfall occurs if the hedger is not willing to follow a perfect hedging or a superhedging strategy. In contrast to the classical variance criterion, the expected shortfall criterion depends only on undesirable outcomes where the terminal value of the written option exceeds the terminal value of the hedge portfolio. Searching a strategy which minimizes the expected shortfall is equivalent to the iterative solution of linear programs whose number increases exponentially with respect to the number of trading dates. Therefore, we partition th…

Améliorer les effets anti-tumoraux des lymphocytes T folliculaires helper (Tfh) en ciblant la communication intercellulaire entre Tfh et Th2.

2019

It is now accepted that the immune system plays a critical role in cancers evolution (Hanahan et al., 2011). In this context, current understanding of the adaptive immune response made it a prime target. T CD4 cells, the main players of the adaptive immune system component, are known to possess distinct roles in the control of tumour growth. Thereby, Th2 and Tfh cells, both known to activate B cells in pathogenic infections, present antagonistic roles in cancer. Indeed, numerous studies demonstrate that Th2 cells are correlated with disease progression (especially via IL-4 secretion) (Koller et al., 2010 ; Roca et al., 2012), whereas Tfh cells are associated with a good prognosis for the pa…
