Varadhan estimates without probability: lower bound

2007

We translate in semi-group theory our proof of Varadhan estimates for subelliptic Laplacians which was using the theory of large deviations of Wentzel-Freidlin and the Malliavin Calculus of Bismut type.

A Conditional Value–at–Risk Model for Insurance Products with Guarantee

2009

We propose a model to select the optimal portfolio which underlies insurance policies with a guarantee. The objective function is defined in order to minimise the conditional value at-risk (CVaR) of the distribution of the losses with respect to a target return. We add operational and regulatory constraints to make the model as flexible as possible when used for real applications. We show that the integration of the asset and liability side yields superior performances with respect to naive fixed-mix portfolios and asset based strategies. We validate the model on out-of-sample scenarios and provide insights on policy design.

Representation of capacity drop at a road merge via point constraints in a first order traffic model

2018

We reproduce the capacity drop phenomenon at a road merge by implementing a non-local point constraint at the junction in a first order traffic model. We call capacity drop the situation in which the outflow through the junction is lower than the receiving capacity of the outgoing road, as too many vehicles trying to access the junction from the incoming roads hinder each other. In this paper, we first construct an enhanced version of the locally constrained model introduced by Haut et al. (Proceedings 16th IFAC World Congress. Prague, Czech Republic 229 (2005) TuM01TP/3), then we propose its counterpart featuring a non-local constraint and finally we compare numerically the two models by c…

Designing portfolios of financial products via integrated simulation and optimization models

1999

We analyze the problem of debt issuance through the sale of innovative financial products. The problem is broken down to questions of designing the financial products, specifying the debt structure with the amount issued in each product, and determining an optimal level of financial leverage. We formulate a hierarchical optimization model to integrate these three issues and provide constructive answers. Input data for the models are obtained from Monte Carlo simulation procedures that generate scenarios of holding period returns of the designed products. The hierarchical optimization model is specialized for the problem of issuing a portfolio of callable bonds to fund mortgage assets. The …

Pharmacologic therapies in endometriosis: a systematic review

2012

To assess the literature on preclinical and clinical efficacy and safety data of pharmacologic groups proposed in the treatment of endometriosis, we performed a systematic review of publications from March 2002 to January 2012 via PubMed search. Additional relevant articles were identified from citations within these publications. A high number of medications were tested in preclinical models of endometriosis due to their theoretic capacity of disrupting important pathophysiologic pathways of the disease, such as inflammatory response, angiogenesis and cell survival, proliferation, migration, adhesion, and invasion. Tumor necrosis factor α-blockers, nuclear factor κB inhibitors, antiangioge…

Tulkošanas kvalitātes vērtēšanas platforma

2022

Can digitisation help overcome linguistic and strategic disadvantages in international media markets? Exploring cross-border business opportunities f…

2018

The media economy and production literature offers insights into the international activities of media companies that provide products in ‘world languages’. Researchers point out that English-language content and, thus, English-language companies have a linguistic advantage and dominate the global media market. In comparison, there is limited knowledge of how companies that originate from non-dominant-language territories expand their activities abroad. This is all the more relevant as digitisation and fragmentation transform markets and new business opportunities arise. Against this background, we ask whether media companies from non-dominant-language markets can benefit from new constell…

Internalizing problems as a mediator in the relationship between low effortful control and internet abuse in adolescence: A three-wave longitudinal s…

2019

Abstract The aim of the study is to examine the relationships between early adolescents' low effortful control, middle adolescents' internalizing problems and late adolescents' Internet abuse, focusing on the mediating role that middle adolescents' internalizing problems may play in the relationship between early adolescents' low effortful control and late adolescents' Internet abuse. The study followed a sample of 482 adolescents (245 boys and 237 girls) from early adolescence (wave 1; mean age = 14.76, SD = 0.63), through middle adolescence (wave 2; mean age = 15.77, SD = 0.61), to late adolescence (wave 3; mean age = 17.88, SD = 0.57). The participants completed self-report questionnaire…

IDENTIFICATION OF CAREER MANAGEMENT SKILLS RELATED PROBLEMS IN THE STUDY PROCESS OF PODOLOGISTS

2016

Despite the competencies acquired in study process, results of learning, diploma and provided guidance measures podologs as same as other young specialists often lack skills to create successful proffesional career in their field.

At this moment in Latvia, specific proffesion, including podologs, career management skill set is not defined. For students of podology learning of mentioned skills is indirectly integrated in educational process, which is reflected by the study program aims, methods and expected results. The aim of the article is to analyse career management skills identification problems in study process of podologs and in this regard, by empirical res…
