Differentiation of Murine C2C12 Myoblasts Strongly Reduces the Effects of Myostatin on Intracellular Signaling

Alongside in vivo models, a simpler and more mechanistic approach is required to study the effects of myostatin on skeletal muscle because myostatin is an important negative regulator of muscle size. In this study, myostatin was administered to murine (C2C12) and human (CHQ) myoblasts and myotubes. Canonical and noncanonical signaling downstream to myostatin, related ligands, and their receptor were analyzed. The effects of tumorkines were analyzed after coculture of C2C12 and colon cancer-C26 cells. The main objective of this paper is to highlight the difficulties of identifying shortening and lengthening contractions based on analysis of power produced by resultant joint moments. For that purpose, we present net ankle joint powers and muscle fascicle/muscle-tendon unit (MTU) velocities for medial gastrocnemius (MG) and soleus (SO) muscles during walking in species of different size (humans and cats). DNA-fragmentation and expression of apoptosis-related proteins in muscular dystrophies

Although numerous sarcolemmal protein defects in muscular dystrophies have been identified, the mechanisms linking these defects and muscle fibre degeneration are not fully characterized. As there is evidence that apoptosis is part of muscle fibre loss in dystrophin-deficient mdx-mice, apoptotic muscle fibre death may also play a role in humans with muscular dystrophies. We investigated in-situ DNA-fragmentation by the TUNEL-method and expression of apoptosis-related proteins immunohistochemically in 14 children suffering from deficiencies of dystrophin, adhalin, and merosin, and found TUNEL-positive chromatin-cleavage of muscle fibre nuclei in about 10% of non-necrotic muscle fibres. Tutkimuksen aineisto koostuu pääosin Teemu Mäen videoteoksista Sex and death (1989) sekä My way, a work in progress (1994) kirjoitetuista sanomalehtiteksteistä sekä näihin teoksiin liitty-vistä muista teksteistä ja materiaalista, kuten oikeudenkäyntiasiakirjoista, eduskuntakysymyksistä, radio-ohjelmista ja keskustelupalstaviesteistä. This article focuses on two non-fiction works by Native American author N. Scott Momaday: his 1969 historical memoir The Way to Rainy Mountain and his essay collection The Man Made of Words. It specifically tackles performative conceptions of language in the Kiowa storytelling tradition, where words are experienced as speech acts that have the power to intervene in surrounding realities. Taking into account 20th century ethno-cultural and linguistic policies in the United States, the article also reflects on the role indigenous languages may play in contemporary Native American Literature, which has most often been written in English.

Maģistra darbā ar rentgendifrakcijas metodi ir pētītas divas cieto šķīdumu sistēmas - Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-SrTiO3–PbTiO3 un Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-CaTiO3. Difrakcijas ainu analīzei izmantota Ritvelda metode. Cietajos šķīdumos atkarībā no cietā šķīduma sastāva novēro gan plašus kristālisko fāzu koeksistences temperatūru intervālus, gan asas fāzu pārejas. Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-SrTiO3–PbTiO3 cieto šķīdumu sistēmā novērojams gan paraelektrisks, gan relaksora, gan segnetoelektrisks stāvoklis atkarībā no sastāva. Abās sistēmās veikti rentgendifrakcijas mērījumi un to analīze cietajiem šķīdumiem, uz kuriem iedarbojas elektriskais lauks. STRUKTŪRA UN ĶĪMISKAIS SASTĀVS CIETAJOS ŠĶĪDUMOS UZ Na0,5Bi0,5TiO3 BĀZES

Maģistra darbā ir pētīta cieto šķīdumu uz Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT) bāzes kristāliskā struktūra, ķīmiskais sastāvs un mikrostruktūra. Eksperimentāli iegūtās NBT-PT cieto šķīdumu rentgenstaru difrakcijas ainas ir analizētas ar Ritvelda metodi. Iegūtie rezultāti liecina par R3c un Pnma kristālisko simetriju fāzu koeksistenci cietajos šķīdumos un apstiprina pieņēmumu, ka tāda pastāv arī tīrā NBT istabas temperatūrā. Pēc termiskās kodināšanas ar SEM novērotas trīs dažādas virsmu mikrostruktūras. Divas no tām ir saistītas ar normālu vielas sublimāciju, par trešo izvirzīts pieņēmums, ka, pieaugot temperatūrai, pār sublimāciju sāk dominēt strauja anormālu graudu augšana.
