Prenatal Exposure to Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol Affects Hippocampus-Related Cognitive Functions in the Adolescent Rat Offspring: Focus on Specific Marke…

2023

Previous evidence suggests that prenatal exposure to THC (pTHC) derails the neurodevelopmental trajectories towards a vulnerable phenotype for impaired emotional regulation and limbic memory. Here we aimed to investigate pTHC effect on hippocampus-related cognitive functions and markers of neuroplasticity in adolescent male offspring. Wistar rats were exposed to THC (2 mg/kg) from gestational day 5 to 20 and tested for spatial memory, object recognition memory and reversal learning in the reinforce-motivated Can test and in the aversion-driven Barnes maze test; locomotor activity and exploration, anxiety-like behaviour, and response to natural reward were assessed in the open field, elevate…

Perceived Well-being Effects During the Implementation of a Self-tracking Technology

2016

In recent years, both individuals and the healthcare sector have become more interested to measure and improve health and well-being by using different selftracking technologies. However, the number of studies concerning the experiences that people have with these technologies is still rather limited. This study investigates the expectations and perceived short-term effects of using self-tracking technologies on users’ well-being. The focus is on the first weeks of usage i.e., the implementation phase. The study is qualitative in nature and based on thematic analysis of ten semistructured interviews. Social Robots and Human Touch in Care : The Perceived Usefulness of Robot Assistance Among Healthcare Professionals

2019

Touching in care work is inevitable, particularly in cases where clients depend on nurses for many activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, lifting and assisting. When new technologies are involved in nurse–client relationships, the significance of human touch needs special attention. Stressing the importance of practitioners’ opinions on the usage of robots in care environments, we analyze care workers’ attitudes toward robot assistance in the care of older people and reflect on their ideas of the embodied relationship that caregivers and care receivers have with technology. To examine nurses’ attitudes toward care robots, we use survey data on professional care workers (n = …

Inequality in Healthcare Utilization in Italy: How Important Are Barriers to Access?

2022

With the ageing population, equitable access to medical care has proven to be paramount for the effective and efficient management of all diseases. The aim of this paper is to investigate whether the probability of facing one of these barriers varies among individuals with different socio-economic status and care needs, controlling for geographical variability. Methods. The sample for this study included 9629 interviews with Italian individuals, aged 15 and over, from the second wave (2015) of the European Health Intervie…
