Eating a variety of vegetables: the importance of feeding practices at weaning and onwards

2013

Présentation sous forme d'un diaporama (24 diapositives) classé confidentiel; International audience; Eating a varied diet is known to improve the food intake from a nutritional point of view. Weaning (i.e. introduction of complementary foods) is a transitional process between the consumption of a unique food, milk, and family foods. This is the time when the diet gets progressively diversified. Accumulating evidences point towards the role that eating a varied diet as early as the beginning of weaning plays in the development of further food acceptance and healthy eating habits. These studies will be reviewed, as well as other studies underlying more broadly the role played by parental fee…

Multimodal Aposematic Defenses Through the Predation Sequence

2021

Aposematic organisms warn predators of their unprofitability using a combination of defenses, including visual warning signals, startling sounds, noxious odors, or aversive tastes. Using multiple lines of defense can help prey avoid predators by stimulating multiple senses and/or by acting at different stages of predation. We tested the efficacy of three lines of defense (color, smell, taste) during the predation sequence of aposematic wood tiger moths (Arctia plantaginis) using blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) predators. Moths with two hindwing phenotypes (genotypes: WW/Wy = white, yy = yellow) were manipulated to have defense fluid with aversive smell (methoxypyrazines), body tissues with a…

Influence of colour, smell and taste on the survival of the wood tiger moth (Arctia plantaginis) adults during predation event

2021

Charles de Gaulle & the French resistance : a case study on the legitimacy and contention of a resistance and its leader

2014

Charles de Gaulle, one of the most notable leaders of the French history, rose to power outside democratic processes. When he departed for London in June 1940 to continue the opposition against Germany, de Gaulle was not an elected official nor did he hold a significant governmental post. He was also lacking public support, but nevertheless managed to become the symbol of French resistance and emerge as the leader of post-war France. Years later, he again became the head of his country outside democratic processes, yet history does not question his legitimacy as a leader. This master’s thesis looks into the foundation of de Gaulle’s legitimacy, and attempts to explain why and how he became …

Legitimointistrategiat Suomen suurimpien kuntien ympäristöraportoinnissa

2016

Tutkimus keskittyy kartoittamaan Suomen suurimpien kuntien ympäristöraporteissa käytettyjä legitimointistrategioita. Tarkoituksena on selvittää minkälaisia legitimointistrategioita kunnat käyttävät raporteissaan, onko strategioiden käytössä tapahtunut muutoksia ja onko strategioiden käytössä kuntakohtaisia eroja. Aineistona toimivat Helsingin, Espoon, Tampereen, Vantaan ja Oulun ympäristönhallintaan liittyvät raportit vuosilta 2006–2013. Tutkimus on luonteeltaan kvalitatiivinen vertailututkimus ja aineiston analysointimenetelmäksi on valittu laadullinen sisällönanalyysi. Analyysi toteutetaan teorialähtöisesti ja aineistosta etsitään teoreettisen viitekehyksen ja aikaisemman tutkimuksen peru…

Author Correction: Evaluation of three methods for biomass estimation in small invertebrates, using three large disparate parasite species as model o…

2018

Invertebrate biomass is considered one of the main factors driving processes in ecosystems. It can be measured directly, primarily by weighing individuals, but more often indirect estimators are used. We developed two indirect and non-destructive approaches to estimate biomass of small invertebrates in a simple manner. The first one was based on clay modelling and the second one was based on image analysis implemented with open-source software. Furthermore, we tested the accuracy of the widely used geometric approximation method (third method). We applied these three different methods to three morphologically disparate model species, an acanthocephalan worm, a crustacean and a flatworm. To …

Effects of NAA and Ecklonia maxima Extracts on Lettuce and Tomato Transplant Production

2022

Ecklonia maxima and the commercial biostimulants produced from it contain various plant growth regulators that are responsible for the growth stimulation recorded in many crops. Auxins are one of the major plant growth regulators contained in E. maxima extracts. The aim of this research was to evaluate the growth-promoting effect of a seaweed extract from E. maxima on lettuce and tomato transplant production under nursery conditions, and to compare the effect of this extract with an equal concentration of synthetic auxin. Two doses of natural or synthetic exogenous auxins (50 or 100 μg L−1) were supplied to the substrate through the irrigation water with an ebb and flow system, 4, …
