Building the Corpus of Finland-Swedish Sign Language : Acknowledging the Language History and Future Revitalization

This paper presents the first steps in the process of creating a multimedia corpus for the severely endangered Finland-Swedish Sign Language (FinSSL). In the paper, we will first outline the history and current situation of FinSSL and then move on to describe some of the foundational choices which we have made both in the earlier data collection and at the start of the currently ongoing annotation work. Finally, we will bring up challenges related to the corpus data processing and discuss the future uses of the corpus, especially from the point of view of the FinSSL revitalization process. peerReviewed

Covalently linked multimers of gold nanoclusters Au102(p-MBA)44 and Au∼250(p-MBA)n

We present the synthesis, separation, and characterization of covalently-bound multimers of para-mercaptobenzoic acid (p-MBA) protected gold nanoclusters. The multimers were synthesized by performing a ligand-exchange reaction of a pre-characterized Au102(p-MBA)44 nanocluster with biphenyl-4,4′-dithiol (BPDT). The reaction products were separated using gel electrophoresis yielding several distinct bands. The bands were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealing monomer, dimer, and trimer fractions of the nanocluster. Professional agency in a university context: Academic freedom and fetters

Professional agency is an urgent topic in academic contexts, albeit relatively unexplored, and elaborated with contradictory conclusions on its extent and characteristics. To contribute to the discussion, this multimethod study investigated professional agency within a Finnish university. We utilised questionnaire data and interviews to explore agency, as manifested in influencing at work, developing work practices, and negotiating professional identity. We found that overall, these three dimensions of agency were manifested fairly substantially, and in a similar manner among the academic staff.
