Shorter recovery time following high-intensity interval training induced higher body fat loss among overweight women
2018
Background: High intensity interval training (HIIT) has been widely employed as an exercise protocol to reduce fat, and also in addition, interval recovery periods are the most important factors which can have great impact on weight loss. Therefore, the aim of this study was the evaluation of different recovery time between HIIT program on metabolic responses and weight loss in overweight women. Methods: Twenty-four overweight (BMI 29.5±3.5 kg/m2) volunteer women were randomly assigned into three groups (n=8/group) to study the effects of different recovery times: (group 1; HIIT with 60/60 activity-rest ratio (sec), group 2; HIIT with 60/30 activity-rest ratio (sec), and group 3 was set as …
"India fighting with itself" : discourses on the Naxalite movement in Indian news media
2015
Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on tutkia tätä konfliktia intialaisen uutismedian representaatioiden kautta. Miten naksaliittejä kuvataan maan suurimmassa englanninkielisessä sanomalehdessä? Minkälaisia diskursseja heihin kytkeytyy? Toisekseen tutkimuksen tarkoit…
Bright Visible Luminescence in Silica Nanoparticles
2011
International audience; We demonstrate that a porous film of silica nanoparticles emits a bright visible luminescence associated with defects stabilized by oxygen chemisorption at oxygen deficient center sites. Time-resolved spectra excited by a tunable laser allow us to distinguish the luminescence at 1.99 eV, characteristic of the nonbridging oxygen hole center (NBOHC) (Si-O)3 Si-O*, and a fast and a slow emission: the first (lifetime τ ≈ 25 ns) is peaked at 2.27 eV with an excitation spectrum centered at 5.5 eV; the second (τ ≈ 7.5 μs) is peaked at 2.41 eV and is excited around 3.2 and 5.2 eV. Reaction in an air atmosphere leads to the disappearance of the NBOHC luminescence and of the …
Raw data for the publication "Effect of graphene substrate type on formation of Bi2Se3 nanoplates", Sci. Rep. 9, 4791, 2019. https://doi.org/10.1038/…
2020
This dataset contains the raw AFM and SEM measurement data used for the study of stages of formation of Bi2Se3 nanoplates on different substrates and for the statistical analysis of sizes and thicknesses of the nanoplates. The results are published in Sci. Rep. 9, 4791, 2019. https://doi.org/10.1038/s41598-019-41178-1
William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury. A study of time sequences, shifts in time and linking mechanisms
2019
The aim of my current research in the frame of my PhD studies is to study the time structure of William Faulkner’s The Soun d and the Fury, with special attention to Benjy’s chapter, in order to establish whether there is a cohesive link between any two consecutive, apparently disconnected episodes narrated in Benjy’s part. The theoretical framework builds upon the theories on narrative syntax , from Aristotle to Propp, Lévi - Strauss, Greimas, Todorov and Genette, on the one hand, and the research on the concept of time across disciplines such as physics, psychology and philosophy, on the other. The methodology includes both quant itative (measurement of the number of lines devoted to each…
"Janie do Cię wracamy w czarnoleskie lipy". Polskie tradycje źródłowe w odmianach literacko-kulturowej współczesności (wybory - powtórzenia - różnice)
2018
The subject of the article - developed through the literary and cultural contexts of contemporary literature - concentrates mainly on different forms of the presence of tradition (targeting the Romantic one as key and the Old Polish as the subsequent one). A look at the styles and tones of the literature-"thriving" languages of these traditions allows us to see these traditions in a different critical light (national symbols/Polish signs/patters/transformations).
Chemopreventive and Anticancer Role of Resveratrol against Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
2023
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most prevailing and aggressive head and neck cancers, featuring high morbidity and mortality. The available conventional treatments suffer from several adverse effects and are often inefficient in terms of their survival rates. Thus, seeking novel therapeutic agents and adjuvants is of the utmost importance for modern society. Natural polyphenolic compounds have recently emerged as promising chemopreventive and anticancer agents. Specifically, the natural compound resveratrol (RSV) has recently gained momentum for this purpose. RSV is useful for treating OSCC due to its antiproliferative, antimetastatic, and proapoptotic effects. Additionall…
Elemental and microbiota content in indoor and outdoor air using recuperation unit filters
2021
Detection and quantification of engineered nanomaterials in environmental systems require precise knowledge of the elemental composition, association, and ratios in homologous natural nanomaterials (NNMs). Here, we characterized soil NNMs at the single particle level using single particle-inductively coupled plasma-time of flight-mass spectrometer (SP-ICP-TOF-MS) in order to identify the elemental purity, composition, associations, and ratios within NNMs. Elements naturally present as a major constituent in NNMs such as Ti, and Fe occurred predominantly as pure/single metals, whereas elements naturally present at trace levels in NNMs occurred predominantly as impure/multi-metal NNMs such as…
