Effective axial-vector strength within proton-neutron deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation

2019

We use the available experimental Gamow-Teller β− and β+/EC (electron-capture) decay rates between 0+ and 1+ ground states in neighboring even-even and odd-odd nuclei, combined with 2νββ half-lives, to analyze the influence of the nuclear environment on the weak axial-vector strength gA. For this purpose, the proton-neutron deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pn-dQRPA), with schematic dipole residual interaction is employed. The Hamiltonian contains particle-hole (ph) and particle-particle (pp) channels with mass-dependent strengths. In deriving the equations of motion we use a self-consistent procedure in terms of a single-particle basis with projected angular momentum provi…

Dynamical formation of a hairy black hole in a cavity from the decay of unstable solitons

2016

Recent numerical relativity simulations within the Einstein--Maxwell--(charged-)Klein-Gordon (EMcKG) system have shown that the non-linear evolution of a superradiantly unstable Reissner-Nordstr\"om black hole (BH) enclosed in a cavity, leads to the formation of a BH with scalar hair. Perturbative evidence for the stability of such hairy BHs has been independently established, confirming they are the true endpoints of the superradiant instability. The same EMcKG system admits also charged scalar soliton-type solutions, which can be either stable or unstable. Using numerical relativity techniques, we provide evidence that the time evolution of some of these $\textit{unstable}$ solitons leads…

High-spin states in the neutron-rich A∼100 region

2009

Two experimental setups have been used to study excited states of neutron‐rich nuclei in the A∼100 region. Extended level schemes and lifetime measurements were obtained using deep‐inelastic and fusion‐fission reactions with the CLARA‐PRISMA spectrometer and the Ge‐array GASP respectively. Experimental information from GASP has been used to complement the CLARA‐PRISMA experiment. Time spectra have been used to measure the lifetimes of isomeric states. Preliminary results are presented for 89Rb.

TPEN: A Triple-foil differential Plunger for lifetime measurements of excited states in Exotic Nuclei

2019

Abstract A Triple-foil differential Plunger for Exotic Nuclei (TPEN) has been developed to measure the lifetimes of excited states in nuclei with small production cross-sections. TPEN utilises one target foil and two degrader foils to make differential lifetime measurements: directly determining the decay function and its derivative at a single plunger distance setting. The direct measurement of the decay function and its derivative removes the requirement to measure γ -ray intensities at several target-to-degrader distances, thereby reducing the beam-time required relative to a conventional plunger with a single-degrader foil. This paper describes the commissioning of TPEN in the lifetime …

‘I think I will need help’: A systematic review of who facilitates the recovery from gender‐based violence and how they do so

2020

Context A key to advancing the eradication of gender-based violence (GBV) is knowing how to recover from it. Objective To identify the changes that are indicators of having overcome GBV and determine the role of various support networks. Search strategy We systematically searched Web of Science. Inclusion criteria Publications whose abstracts contained a minimum of two of the following words: (a) support or network or solidarity, (b) violence and (c) recovery or healing. Data extraction and synthesis Of the 273 documents retrieved, 52 were used using a narrative synthesis approach. Main results For recovery, women must reconnect with themselves, with their environment and with the world in …

Un lieu de culte monumental gaulois dans le Mercantour : le site de la Cime de la Tournerie (commune de Roubion, Alpes-Maritimes)

2019

International audience; In the Southern Alps, the site of la Cime de La Tournerie, established on a mount peaking at an altitude of 1 816 m, is a monumental place of worship of the early second Iron Age. This site is caracterised by a network of concentric walls and ditches surronding a 500 m2 platform marked out by a monumental wall. Excavations conducted from 2014 to 2017 uncovered weapons, jewelry, remains of banquet, human bones, elements of monumental masonry and a Massaliot monetary storage of the third century BC.

A charge plunger device to measure the lifetimes of excited nuclear states where transitions are dominated by internal conversion

2020

A charge plunger device has been commissioned based on the DPUNS plunger (Taylor et al., 2013) using the in-flight mass separator MARA at the University of Jyväskylä. The 152Sm(32S,4n)180Pt reaction was used to populate excited states in 180Pt. A lifetime measurement of the 21+ state was performed by applying the charge plunger technique, which relies on the detection of the charge state-distribution of recoils rather than the detection of the emitted γ rays. This state was a good candidate to test the charge plunger technique as it has a known lifetime and depopulates through a converted transition that competes strongly with γ-ray emission. The lifetime of the 21+ state was measured to be…

Modelling the frequency distribution of inter-arrival times from daily precipitation time-series in North-West Italy

2018

Abstract The discrete three-parameter Lerch distribution is used to analyse the frequency distribution of inter-arrival times derived from 26 daily precipitation time-series, collected by stations located throughout a 28,000 km2 area in North-West Italy (altitudes ranging from 113 m to 2,170 m a.s.l.). The precipitation regime of these Alpine regions is very different (latitude 44.5 to 46.5 N) from the typical Mediterranean precipitation regime of the island of Sicily (latitude 37 to 38 N), where the Lerch distribution has already been tested and whose results are compared. In order to verify the homogeneity of the precipitation time series, the Pettitt test was preliminarily performed. In …

On Regulated Solutions of Impulsive Differential Equations with Variable Times

2020

In this paper we investigate the unified theory for solutions of differential equations without impulses and with impulses, even at variable times, allowing the presence of beating phenomena, in the space of regulated functions. One of the aims of the paper is to give sufficient conditions to ensure that a regulated solution of an impulsive problem is globally defined.

System Times and Channel Availability for Secondary Transmissions in CRNs: A Dependability Theory based Analysis

2017

[EN] Reliability is of fundamental importance for the performance of secondary networks in cognitive radio networks (CRNs). To date, most studies have focused on predicting reliability parameters based on prior statistics of traffic patterns from user behavior. In this paper, we define a few reliability metrics for channel access in multichannel CRNs that are analogous to the concepts of reliability and availability in classical dependability theory. Continuous-time Markov chains are employed to model channel available and unavailable time intervals based on channel occupancy status. The impact on user access opportunities based on channel availability is investigated by analyzing the stead…
