Influence of operational variables on the photodegradation kinetics of Monuron in aqueous titanium dioxide dispersions

The degradation of Monuron [N′—(4-chlorophenyl)—N, N dimethyl urea] in aqueous TiO 2 dispersions irradiated in the near-UV region has been investigated using a Pyrex batch photoreactor. The influence on the degradation kinetics of pH, initial Monuron concentration and catalyst concentration has been studied. The mineralization of the pollutant was also investigated. Measurements of photon absorbed flows allowed to determine the quantum yield values; they were found to increase by increasing the initial pH of the dispersion.

Photocatalytic oxidation of acetonitrile in aqueous suspension of titanium dioxide irradiated by sunlight

The photocatalytic oxidation of acetonitrile (CH3CN) was carried out in aqueous suspensions of polycrystalline TiO2 P25 Degussa irradiated by sunlight. A plug flow photoreactor in a total recycle loop was used for carrying out reactivity experiments in which the concentrations of acetonitrile, of its intermediate oxidation products and of not-purgeable organic carbon (NPOC) were monitored. The influence of the presence of strong oxidant species (H2O2, S2O82−, ClO−) on the process rate was studied. The Photocatalytic Activity of Novel, Substituted Porphyrin/TiO2-Based Composites

Four novel porphyrins, 5-[3-(3-phenoxy)-propoxy]phenyl porphyrin, 5,15-di-[3-(3-phenoxy)-propoxy] phenyl porphyrin, 5,10,15-tri-[3-(3-phenoxy)-propoxy]phenyl porphyrin, 5,10,15,20-tetra-[3-(3-phenoxy)- propoxy]phenyl porphyrin, and their corresponding Cu(II) porphyrins, were synthesized and characterized spectroscopically. The photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol in aq. suspension was used to determine the photocatalytic activity of polycrystalline TiO2 samples which had been impregnated with the Cu(II) porphyrins, as sensitizers. The photocatalytic activity of the composite depends mainly on the amount of sensitizer on the TiO2 surface rather than the nature of the substituted porphyrins.

Titanium dioxide in dental enamel as a trace element and its variation with bleaching

Background Titanium is a less studied trace element in dental enamel. Literature relates an increased Titanium concentration with a decreased enamel crystal domain size, which in turn is related to a higher color value. The aim of our study was to analyze the effect of tooth bleaching agents on its concentration in dental enamel by means of confocal Raman spectroscopy. Application of Potassium Ion Impregnated Titanium Dioxide as Nanocatalyst for Transesterification of Linseed Oil

The current work comprises the investigation of biodiesel production from linseed oil using TiO2 and a potassium L-tartrate monobasic (C4H5KO6)-modified TiO2 nanocatalyst. Different amounts of C4H5KO6 were considered for TiO2 modification. The nanocatalyst TiO2–0.5C4H5KO6 (1:0.5 molar ratio) showed the best conversion rate for biodiesel production. The nanocatalyst was characterized by FTIR, XRD, TEM, BET, and XPS, and the Hammett indicator–benzenecarboxylic acid titration method was used for basicity measurement. Photocatalytic degradation of nitrophenols in aqueous titanium dioxide dispersion

Abstract The results are reported of an investigation into the photodegradation of nitrophenol isomers carried out in aqueous titania (anatase) dispersions under various experimental conditions. We investigated the influence of various parameters on the photodegradation rate, such as the concentrations of the catalyst, dissolved oxygen and organic compound, and the presence of various anions in the dispersion. Octave Spanning Supercontinuum in Titanium Dioxide Waveguides

International audience; We report on the experimental generation of an octave-spanning supercontinuum in a 2.2 cm-long titanium dioxide optical waveguide with two zero dispersion wavelengths. The resulting on-chip supercontinuum reaches the visible wavelength range as well as the mid-infrared region by using a femtosecond fiber laser pump at 1.64 µm.

Zanieczyszczenia wód gruntowych i powierzchniowych są powodowane w dużej mierze przez pochodne fenolu, w szczególności 4-nitrofenolu (4NF). Jedną z obiecujących metod oczyszczania ścieków jest fotokatalityczna mineralizacja zawartych w nich fenoli, z wykorzystaniem półprzewodników, np. ditlenku tytanu (TiO2).
