Tuning of Emission Wavelength of CaS:Eu by Addition of Oxygen Using Atomic Layer Deposition
2021

The fine control at the atomic level allowed by ALD technology creates the perfect conditions for the inclusion of new cationic or anionic elements of the already-known materials. Consequently, novel material characteristics may arise with new functions for applications. This is especially relevant for inorganic luminescent materials where slight changes in the vicinity of the luminescent centers may originate new emission properties. Here, we studied the lumines…

Coupling the Higgs mode and ferromagnetic resonance in spin-split superconductors with Rashba spin-orbit coupling
2022
We show that the Higgs mode of superconductors can couple with spin dynamics in the presence of a static spin-splitting field and Rashba spin-orbit coupling. The Higgs-spin coupling dramatically modifies the spin susceptibility near the superconducting critical temperature and consequently enhances the spin pumping effect in a ferromagnetic insulator/superconductor bilayer system. We show that this effect can be detected by measuring the magnon transmission rate and the magnon-induced voltage generated by the inverse spin Hall effect.
Visual understanding of divergence and curl: Visual cues promote better learning
2019
Prior research has shown that students struggle to indicate whether vector field plots have zero or non-zero curl or divergence. In an instruction-based eye-tracking study, we investigated whether visual cues (VC) provided in the vector field plot can foster students’ understanding of these concepts. The VC were only present during instruction and highlighted conceptual information about vector decomposition and partial derivatives. Thirty-two physics majors were assigned to two groups, one was instructed with VC about the problemsolving strategy, and one without. The results show that students in VC-condition performed better, responded with higher confidence, experienced less mental effor…
Multi-hop D2D Communications with Network Coding : From A Performance Perspective
2019
Multi-hop device-to-device (D2D) communications play an important role in expanding D2D coverage. In this paper, we study a relay-based and network-coding-assisted (in particular, XOR coding) multi-hop D2D communication system. In the system, toward jointly considering the impact of interference and network traffic conditions on the quality of D2D communications, various channel fading models and traffic models are investigated, and the packet loss probability of D2D links is meticulously computed using these models. With the packet loss probability of D2D links, the general closed-form expressions of end-to-end packet loss probability (E2EPLP) of the system with the presence (or absence) o…
Musiikkimatkailijan muotokuva : Viitasaaren Musiikin aika -festivaali 1992 ja 2007
2013
Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan kysymyksiä mitä on musiikkimatkailu ja minkälainen on musiikkimatkaili-ja, käyttäen aineistona kesällä 2007 Viitasaaren Musiikin aika -nusiikkifestivaalilla tehtyä kyselytutki-musta, joka pohjautui Timo Cantellin (1993) kesällä 1992 Musiikin aika -musiikkifestivaalilla tekemään kyselytutkimukseen. Vuoden 2007 ja 1992 tuloksia vertaillaan keskenään käyttäen viitekehyksenä ai-neistojen analysoinnissa Hughesin (2000) teoriaa matkailusta, johon sisältyy taidekokemus, the arts-related tourism ja matkailijasta, the arts-related tourist, jonka matkaan kuuluu taidekokemus. Hughesin teoria rajaa tutkittaviksi kohteiksi nimenomaan esittävän taiteen, the peforming arts, joh…
The Conference Reimagined. Postcards, Letters, and Camping Together in Undressed Places
2019
In this paper, five authors account for the rethinking of a conference as a series of postcards, letters, rules and silent moments so that traditional hierarchies of knowledge could be overturned or, at least, sidelined. We recount how the place we convened was enlisted as an actor and the dramas and devices we applied to encounter it. We use this accounting to problematize the conventional practices of goal-oriented meetings and co-authored papers as forms of academic meaning-making. In finding a meeting point where expertise was disorientated and status undressed, we were able to investigate the idea of co-being between human and nonhuman realities as the step social theory needs to take …
Design of mobile phones for older adults : An empirical analysis of design guidelines and checklists for feature phones and smartphones
2017
Design guidelines and checklists are suggested as a useful tool in the development and evaluation of interface design of mobile phones for older adults. Given the intense evolution of mobile phone design, understanding how the design guidelines and checklists have taken into account the advances in mobile phone usability for older adults is important for their correct application and future development. Thus, this study explores the usability dimensions of mobile phone design for older adults and the related changes in terms of time and the type of device (feature phones vs. smartphones) based on an expert coding of the eight mobile phone design guidelines and checklists for older adults pu…
Computational thinking and acting: An approach for primary school competency development
2020
Computational Thinking has become an important concept for almost all age groups. It describes the purposeful utilization of Information and Communication Technologies for solving problems. The approach of Computational Thinking and Acting combines the computational thinking approach with physical computing, including physical activities to explore real-world problems and tangible outcomes. In this paper, we present a competency framework, design principles, and a sample learning scenario for Computational Thinking and Acting. The evaluation has shown that the approach can be integrated across subjects and is promising for both teachers and pupils. peerReviewed
